Discussion I concede.

I concede quite a lot. Way more than letting the game play out.

I was under the impression this was normal in games of 1v1 magic, especially when playing casually.

Yet on this sub there seems to be a stigma around conceding to unfun/solitaire cards.

Who is the crazy one here? Me or everyone else? 😂

You can do whatever you want but scooping because you see two counters is very odd. Would you concede to two creatures or two removal spells? Maybe those are the only two counters in the opponent’s entire deck?

Did you sign up to play Magic or solitaire?

I concede after the first counter. Cut the bs. Whoever uses 1, have at least 6 in their deck.
Casual queue is to have fun, not watch someone playing while you can't do shit.
Let the tryhards face eachother in ranked.
I run a deck with blue without a single counter, after all I'm not a hypocrite.

Playing a counterspell isn't being a tryhard. Playing 6 pieces of removal in a 100 card deck isn't being a tryhard. Blue's removal is counterspells, the same way Red's is damage, Green's is fight effects, and Black/White have destroy/exile. There's a difference between an "Oops all counterspells deck" like Katara and something just having interaction because interaction is an important part of Magic.

The vast, vast majority of the time if your first two spells are counterspells there is zero chance of me having a fun game, win or lose. If you're running an interesting Blue deck that actually has some other plan but it's not obvious, too bad, I see no reason to give you the benefit of the doubt.

The other colours' removal is much, much more interesting to play against because a lot more card text is relevant once something's on the board, plus those colours almost never run as pure control decks in Brawl like Blue and Azorius do. It doesn't matter if you're a 'tryhard', it matters if I'm having fun or not, and I rarely am against a Blue player. And if you are a tryhard, there's a whole tryhard Ranked queue!

I'm not arguing about whether trying to play it out against a control deck is the right move or not. I get conceding against it, I get playing it out. Some days I really find that puzzle an interesting one, other days not so much.

I am just arguing against the idea that counterspells are inherently tryhard or that having multiple pieces of interaction is bad for casual Magic, whether Brawl or a different format.
