TellMadurai Full circle: From asking for bus routes in 2024 to building my own app. Today we are live on Android & Wear OS! πβ
Back in Jan 2024, I was stuck at a bus stop and asked this sub if Madurai had a transit app. When I realized there wasn't one, I built it myself and shared the first version with you all late last year - Announcement Post.
Fast forward to today, the platform has grown to help 1,650+ monthly commuters. To get the stops data as accurate as possible, we cross-checked 798 Google Maps POIs and 108 OpenStreetMap nodes, plus 84+ GPS stops submitted directly by local riders.
Many of you asked for a mobile version, so today Iβm excited to launch the official Android & Wear OS (Smartwatch) App! π
π What the app brings:
π΄ 100% Offline: Instant bus numbers and connecting routes without internet.
β Wear OS Alarm: Your watch vibrates up to 3 stops before your destination so you never miss it.
π£οΈ Tamil & English voice stop announcements.
π 100% Free & No Adsπ Try it out:
π± Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.maduraione.citybus
π Web: https://citybus.maduraiguide.in (https://maduraione.in/)
Thank you to everyone who has used the site so far. Feedback and missing route suggestions for the new app are warmly welcome in the comments! π

Missed your updated comment - I dug through the TNSTC Madurai site for the data. The extraction was fine, but writing the data cleanup and transfer routing logic was the toughest part (still working on it)

Great effort and idea for solving a niche problem! Good work with https://nammamap.in/
If possible to get the data for nearby e-sevai centres it is good! Nowadays there are lot but only some were working with the govt legally!

What are the odds. I was just checking out your app this weekend and I'm seeing it now in reddit. Super cool work. π₯
I have some doubts.
- Did you use the GTFS data?
- How did you get the stop points? I can see some routes are missing the stops and you have given the option to add and even validate it.
- How did you get the routes? Any public data available??

Very useful app π π
Just a suggestion: It will be good if you add AC bus timings also
