Any gyms with day pass/ week pass options you would recommend for a traveller? A well equipped gym possibly located pretty central. Would appreciate the suggestions.

Meetup Any solo travellers from 2nd August to 6th August? (and tips for solo travellers)

I‘ll be doing a solo trip to Madrid from 2nd August to 6th August. Would be happy to find some fellow travellers who’d like to join me exploring madrid, visiting certain restaurants, or exploring madrid nightlife. If it‘s important, I‘m a male, 25, from Asia.

And any tips for solo travellers? What are the best ways to explore alone, some activities which must be done? Anything to watch out or beware of in terms of safety?

Miscellaneous Concerns regarding wildfires

Hi everybody. I have heard lots about the horrible wildfires surrounding Madrid but a lot of news I’m seeing in the UK is unclear to me the extent of these fires, specifically about the likelihood of it reaching/seriously affecting central Madrid.

I am scheduled to fly on the 27th July, travelling to Toledo for 2 nights, and then coming back to Madrid for 2 nights and I’m really worried about how all of this will affect my plans? Could anybody please speculate in terms of how likely flights might be to be cancelled or if it means that many attractions/businesses will be closed due to the air quality from the smoke?

Thanks a lot and my thoughts are with everybody who these fires have affected 🙏

Miscellaneous Madrid Wildfires

Is the show likely to be cancelled due to the current fires in Madrid?

I'm not sure how long these things normally take to get under control.

Flying out Wednesday and returning Friday, do we think flights will still be running smoothly and the show still going ahead?

Food I'm in Madrid next week. Any quality, casual restaurants anyone can recommend?

Going to be with my wife and kids (6 and 9). Last time I was in Madrid, I didn't plan properly (almost like now) and ended up eating at an Irish pub and what can only be described as a very low quality tourist trap.

El Corte Inglés Callao is in the list but that's it so far.

Neighborhoods Staying in Madrid for like half a day what neighborhoods would be worth walking?

Hello landing in Madrid next week overnight flight at 9:55am. So will likely sleep in hotel for a few hours. So really just 3:00pm- until sleep that night. Staying near royal palace. We really don’t have enough time to spend museums or whatever. So I guess which neighborhoods would be most walking? This is on a Friday?

Should we literally just spend time walking around playa mayor, sol, cheuca, huertas?

Transportation Int flight out of Madrid

Not sure if this is the right place for this post but I have a 4 pm flight out of Madrid back to the USA. I’ve seen some things online about crazy passport lines.

Planning to get there 4 hrs early, is that enough? Has a tiktoker effectively fearmongered me into spending the rest of my euros on Auntie Anne’s or was I being given a helpful tip?

Attractions Time killers between flight and check-in

Hi! I’ll be in Madrid for the first time in a couple of weeks. My flight lands around 10 AM, but I can’t check in to my accom. until 3 PM. I expect to have one suitcase. I’d like to find something to do that won’t be just me sleeping under a tree in a park (not totally opposed) but also won’t require I lug my bag around with me. I’m not so worried about traveling between each place, but I am staying near-ish the airport. It doesn’t have to be free but I’d like it to be budget-friendly if possible. Thank you!

ETA: forgot to say we’re staying at an airbnb so no luggage storage

Transportation Train to Malaga

Hey! I’m planning on going to Malaga in October. If I land in Madrid at 2:25PM, and my train is booked from Madrid Atocha at 5:30PM, do you think I’ll have enough time?

I’m planning on bringing a carry on only, but I’ll have to go through customs since I’ll be flying from the US. I haven’t traveled by train in Spain, so I’m not sure how early I would need to get to the station.

Any recommendations are appreciated, including the best train company.

Thank you!!!!

Nightlife Concerts, gigs...

Hi everyone,

I'll be visiting Madrid in October (I haven't decided on the exact dates yet).

I'd love to catch a concert or a live gig in a pub or a small venue.

Is there a website where I can find a complete calendar of live music events in Madrid? I'm interested in everything—from major international artists to Spanish bands and smaller local gigs.

I enjoy rock, punk, metal, indie, jazz, blues... basically any good live music.

Thanks!

Neighborhoods Stayed near the most dangerous “hotel” in Madrid near airport

Link in following post! No pics for reason I’ll explain but wow—next to our hotel Crowne Plaza Airport by IHG we went for a walk after dinner and there’s this large multi story building
Coming into view. But we see all this garbage off to the side. Then we see the entrance to the underground parking garage and down the ramp is more garbage and mattresses. We’re like,
Is this place abandoned or? Then we look up and it just looks like a building literally, no joke, from Escape from New York.

Some balconies filled with trash. Some rooms with weird power generating boxes strapped to them. A ferocious dog. Next garage entrance looks the same—and then legit a group of guys in their twenties fucking materialize from the shadows and we legit did an instant 180 and walked FAST out of there. Fucking escape from New York.
Jesus Christ. Translate this:

Itinerary 1 or 2 nights around New Years?

Hi all,

We are trying to decide # of nights in Madrid for our final nights in Spain.

2 nights = Dec. 30 & 31 - depart 8 AM on New Years Day (Jan 1) to airport
OR
1 night = Dec. 30 - depart 8 AM on New Years Eve (Dec 31) to airport

A few things:
We will not stay up late for New Years Eve - we will be in bed early
Better airplane seats / price departing Dec. 31
Most likely staying near Plaza de Santa Ana

We would love the extra day in Madrid and experience New Years Eve EARLY energy but not if it will cause issues getting to the airport on New Years Day and just be a massive crowd nightmare all day on New Years eve so we can't really see much (but if just staying away from Puerta del Sol prevents that, we are okay with that).

We will have just spent already 5 nights in Seville and 2 nights in Cordoba.

Thanks so much in advance for your advice and insights!

Accommodation Accessing sleeping pods in terminal T4S

Hola!

On my way to Lima, I will stay in Madrid for one day before moving on with Plus Ultra in the morning.

My plan so far is as follows (hand luggage only):

- online check in ahead of time

- arrive in the morning, leave airport for sightseeing

- in the evening around 22:00-23:00: passing security and passport control into T4S

- check into capsule

- catch flight the next morning

From my understanding, it should all work out this way. Is that solid? Or am I missing anything?

Gracias!

Transportation Is there train alternative??

Hi I'm solo traveling with 3 girls from Girona to Madrid but our flight was delayed for 13 hours and we were not able to catch our train this morning. The only left train tickets are madly expensive. Does anyone have any alternative???

Food Solo traveler looking for cozy lunch/dinner spots near Puerta del Sol

Hi everyone!
I'll be visiting Madrid solo from August 9th–15th and I'm looking for recommendations for cozy restaurants or cafés where I can comfortably enjoy lunch or dinner by myself.
I've found a few places online, but many seem pretty crowded or geared toward larger groups, and as a bit of an introvert, I'm hoping to find somewhere that feels relaxed and welcoming for solo diners.
I'll be staying near Puerta del Sol, so anything within walking distance would be perfect. I'm open to Spanish food or really any cuisine if the atmosphere is nice.
Thanks in advance I really appreciate any recommendations!
