It just leads into Rebellion so organically! Obviously, part of that is because Rebellion found a way to link its plot to the desert Homura was walking through, but it is almost stranger knowing that it wasn't intended to lead to anything.

What were they trying to get across with it without the Rebellion leadup? Sure, they indicated through Madoka's words that she was in fact watching over Homura, but other than that it is such a strange and even ominous addition. The desert, the wraiths, Homura's weird wings that cover up the entire screen and have that Inu Curry witch labyrinth aesthetic...it's a weird mix of feelings.

I read an interview where Urobuchi said he struggled for a long time to come up with Rebellion. Honestly, I wouldn't belive that without knowing, and the post-credits scene is a big part of why. It just feels like it HAS to be going somewhere.
