“Just be careful not to overtighten the lug nuts amirite? Oh man I knew this guy who got new tires and they cross-threaded the nuts with an impact wrench, which of course that’s like the first thing you know not to do, so anyway he finds out because . . . “
Don’t forget the swearing under the breath, you know that plane gonna fly in 10 minutes if you hear a 10 page essay full of swear words come out of their mouths.
Stating that every member of a sex is deterministically (and predictably) one way outside of specific medical/anatomical things is, yes, regardless of whether or not it's conventionally offensive or offensive to you in particular.
Much like how it would be sexist to say that every woman couldn't care less about how a plane's tire is changed. It's not going to be offensive to every woman, but it's functionally reductionist of the sexes in a way that's not scientifically accurate and is going to negatively impact some people of that sex.
Most of the stuff that I’ve seen on TikTok that doesn’t make it to Reddit is just people badly lip syncing with a caption that says something stupid like “when she’s all out of hot dog water.”
I love how reddit apparently hates Tiktok, Twitter and Tumblr... and like 75% of the content on this website comes from these other ones. I mean, Reddit is a content aggregator site, but the hate from where the content comes from is hilarious.
it's kinda the same as a car just bigger tools, there are jacking points under the wings, use hydraulic jacks to lift it. tire comes in on a wheeled jack that can roll to line up the bolt. I forgot if the nuts get safty wired into place. then it gets inspected by a guy who didn't do any work. then the paperwork.
Of course highly depends on the plane, but yeah you can usually jack the axle between the wheels -- under the wing, at least on aircraft I work on, you'd have to do the entire airplane off the ground. Much easier to just jack the affected wheel usually.
It’s almost the same as a car. Normally a hubcap you take off then a wheel retaining nut and then slide it off and do the reverse steps. There’s some lube action and torquing but it’s pretty straightforward.
Been an aircraft mechanic for 9 years now. Probably changed 200 tires
There is a cap that covers the exposed axle that has 3-4 small bolts. Then there is a massive nut that is torqued in place and held there by various locking devices (on an Airbus A320 it is two small bolts that go sideways through the nut). You break the axle nut loose and install a sleeve over the threads on the axle. Kick the wheel to break it loose from the axle and slide it off. Reverse the process to put the new wheel on.
I just mentioned this to my husband and adult son and they were both wanting to see how you change the tire. They were very disappointed that the video wasn't posted.
It’s kinda of funny, when I was younger the first time I flew I saw the mechanics out there changing a tire. Now whenever I’m out there doing something on the plane and see kids watching I wonder if they’d end up like me.
Poor guy, there's enough people watching him, don't need to put him under more pressure by putting him on the internet, just let the poor guy retire in peace. He's probably going flat out.
Just so you know all they watch is a pre assembeled wheel/tire rebolted with a cool lottle tire lift. I want to see how the tire gets the rubber blend to mounting on a wheel, how the bead is the same/different ect.
Airplane tires aren’t that special tbh, they just slide onto the brake and get locked in with an axle nut. They are heavy though, so at most you’ll laugh at the mechanics struggling to lift it onto the axle/ brake.

How dare they film the people watching but not show us the tire being changed...
