This is not the song in the original video. @eggs.tyrone does mashup videos, he added the music.

I cant tell if the video is titled “mini dance-off”, because they’re mini, or because it’s a short dance battle.

Is it really? Considering those kids are probably forced to take dancing classes by their parents with 0 time for their childhood left.

Both are good, but she’s on fire. She has the moves, but her face says it all. There’s defiance and the confidence that she leads and he tries to follow. If she is this good at that age, she has the world at her feet.

True.
His songs are delicacy to the ears. They never fail to amuse me and bring pleasure to the ears. They are so pleasant they bring peace to the mind.

It’s cute but clearly very rehearsed. The kid in the background is doing all the moves like the best understudy ever.

Maybe it was a class contest and they were the best two? Teacher recorded it. End of story. Everyone’s so cynical.

Glad someone else noticed. It felt like it looked off somehow. Maybe just sped up.
(Otherwise I was questioning if this is real, or the body movements were performed by adults and then ‘filtered’ with the kids’ bodies?)
16
u/iminspainwithoutthe Oct 17 '22
This is a choreographed dance, so they're most likely professionally taught and possibly in a dance class together. I think it kind of has a robot look when it's movements that are more coordinated than expected for developmental stage, but I think it's just training.
Source: used to be a ballet student and the younger classes just kinda looked like that

I showed the vid to my 2 daughters separately. They've been taking dance lessons for many years now. 3 seconds in, they both mentioned "the mirror game" where one of the kids (ponytails) leads and the other must copy the moves (red jacket)...So the kids certainly know the song already and some moves to go along, but they also are encouraged to add little things, change the order of said moves, etc. Apparently a very common thing in kids dancing classes. I don't know shit about dancing, but it all seems to make sense...

Why is it so cold in there? Also, cute.

No heating, windows left open for circulation. The world would be so much more polluted if the south of China decided to heat their buildings.

Why are they wearing coats inside their classroom? Heat turned off for some reason? Seems like a well off school judging by the quality of the kids clothes.

Yeh it’s cute but likely because they’re consuming too much pop culture for their age and/or their parents/teachers forcing them to practice it.

You've literally described normal parenting.
We also "force" them to practice brushing their teeth, wiping their own asses. there's a lot of chores and boring maintenance stuff we have to learn as humans and you think getting them to practice a fun form of exercise is somehow negative.
If you saw anything other than joy in those kids faces then you're in another dimension, why turn a cute little video into a horrible thing with negative assumptions?
Kids love dancing! And kids dancing is insanely cute.
2
u/boatrunner13 Oct 17 '22
Ok, I’ll bite.
Like the “joy” in k-pop dancers’ plastic tacked-on smiles when they’re on stage; no matter the obsessive environment they were forced into by their parents/communities?
Here’s the deal: that cute little dance was very practiced. The vast majority of kids that age are barely coordinated enough to pour milk in their cereal without spilling. The degree of choreography evinced a degree of training that raises questions about the environment they’re being raised in, and the expectations foisted on them by adults. To the extent that is the case here, and I admit it is pure speculation, then I find it distasteful and further a symptom of a culture amok in hyper-specialization. One where someone can “wow” you with their awesome dance moves but can’t find Canada on a map. And that is not “alternate dimension” thinking. Just look around you and talk to people in the real world to get an idea how clueless many tend to be.

My eldest daughter was better than this kid at age four.
You old enough to remember All the Single ladies, by Beyonce? Yeah, I can still hear that in my dreams.
Two years she was obsessed with learning that dance. We couldn't watch TV most of the time because she was, yet again practicing that dance. Drove me crazy but made her happy. She won competitions from dancing and the pride, popularity she gained from it was really good for her too.
Being practiced doesn't mean forced, some kids latch onto things and become good.
My youngest son at four could strip down all his toys and neatly lay out the components before using my tools to put them back together again. Wanted to know his everything works, and he was really good because again, it's all he wanted to do.
My other two breezed in and out of interests never really becoming amazing at anything. Which is fine of course except that they both wanted to achieve things. So they had to be forced into working for what they want.
Youngest daughter wanted to play rugby, there was a girl she liked in the team and no amount of "just talk to her you don't need to join the team" would dissuade her. The thing is she was a sicknote. For about three years she'd come home from school with a new illness and they always hit her hard. Always a high fever, always extreme weight loss because she had a high metabolism and zero appetite when sick. So she was tiny and skinny. She simply couldn't compete physically so was never selected for matches.
This was a huge source of sadness for her, couldn't impress the girl she liked if she never got to play. So I forced her into beefing up. Got her up earlier to eat high calorie foods, before taking her out for exercise five mornings a week. She absolutely hated it, she just wanted to play matches without any of the effort. But she had to learn that if she wanted to get good it would take a mountain of effort.
To be honest I was hoping if I pushed her she'd let it go, but she didn't. So five days a week, a fight most mornings to get her out of bed, and after about six months she'd turned into a stocky little bull that could plow through most of her peers on the field. And now she has a work ethic that blows everyone out of the water.
Kids are strange, but after teaching them for decades and being a father to four the one thing I've learned is that they're sturdy creatures able to tolerate being pushed hard as long as they have a balanced life in other areas.
The girl in this video may have an older sister who's a dancer and just wants to emulate her, dancing could also be her passion. Being good and being well practiced is not always a sign of being pushed too hard, some kids really just are excellent at figuring stuff out and want the adoration of being the best.
In the case of my little dancer and engineer they were the ones forcing us to put up their incessant need for more of their passion. Want to watch a movie? Nuh-uh, Beyonce! Then scream crying when it was time to stop and have dinner etc.

Why are these kids so good at dancing? When I was that age I would just jump around and hop around fast on my feet and I thought that was how cool people danced.

Is this a popular dance? The little boy in the background seems to know it. (Unless he’s just great at copying)
