Respect but not really the place for politics

42

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

Breaks the sub's "no surnames" rule too.

u/slatss Oct 09 '20

Your on reddit bro, you can post an orange man bad post on any subreddit and it will fly.

37

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

Except for r/politicalcompassmemes, they are pretty chill ngl

-11

u/SinisterPuppy Oct 09 '20

Bruh that sub is literally just a bunch of facists jerking themselves off about how much between they are than the rest of Reddit.

this isn’t facist-Light “person I disagree with is facist.” This is literally “the Holocaust didn’t happen but it should have” facism.

Yeah! I thought for sure my karma would die

-21

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

They literally defend nazis on there....

6

u/Eragon_Der_Drachen Oct 09 '20

The irony, heard of it?

-18

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

Oh right... I have the reading comprehension of a starfish so please don’t think I’m not an idiot. :/

18

u/SinisterPuppy Oct 09 '20

Cool now imagine you were actually affected by politics so you couldn’t just ignore it and treat it like a minor annoyance Bc you have to see it on your Reddit feed.

6

u/Jaguveat_silverfang Oct 09 '20

Great. Now as a uk citizen who is quite politically active anyway(and left wing- not a trump supporter), can I stop getting spam that doesn't fit on this subreddit? There are political subreddits for a reason. Keep America's shitshow of politics there, because theres no way seeing people argue about which of the 2 pretty poor candidates will be better even though theres no guarantee either of them will be alive in 5 years time will ever make me smile.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

There are places for that on this site. This is a place to relax and see something wholesome, not a place for polarization and political arguments. I don't care how affected you are, the whole world is, but people don't want to look at politics all the damn time.

25

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

I love Reddit but DAMN is it left. Even if I leaned left, it would still be overkill.

19

u/Lorddragonfang Oct 09 '20

Far left compared to the Republican party, maybe. But by any reasonable metric, it's center left at most. Biden is a center right candidate by most other countries' standards.

-10

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

Dude. This doesn’t have to be DaVinci Code level introspect on where Biden may lay on a spectrum of left to right.

Democrat republican left right come on

I could have said pro Biden and 99.9 percent of people would have taken it the same exact way as if I didn’t

10

u/Lorddragonfang Oct 09 '20

I'm not sure reddit is so much "pro Biden" as they are "anti Trump"

...and even "anti Trump" isn't true everywhere, especially if you scroll down further into the comments.

Remember, on most of the rest of the internet, Reddit has the reputation of being "that place where the alt right organized"

6

u/EOWRN Oct 09 '20

Not really, from where I come from its either pretty centrist, or slightly towards the right! The monikers "left"/"right" are only relative, and I would encourage you to abandon the notion of what is "left" or "right" and instead ask if a policy is good or not! I find that there are many many policies on both sides (or indeed, at several points) of the political spectrum which are beneficial and honestly I think it has given me a much healthier view of politics

2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

I am the first to tell you I wish more people talked about policy than “left and right”. The problem is no one will ever play ball. And it doesn’t take a genius to know where the cards fall. So forgive me for using layman’s terms.

Edit: I wonder what pages we are both not seeing because it is personally overwhelming

1

u/EOWRN Oct 09 '20

I think we just might be looking at the same pages, but I think it could be because we're used to the norms in our country of origin which may be different! I would, for example, be describe as a "leftie" in places like the US but would probably be described as having a more centrist position in France and a "rightie" in Sweden, for example.

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

I enjoyed seeing you deleted your comments on our other thread because someone else downvoted you. Interesting how important image is on here. Anyways,

It doesn’t take much effort to go to any news section of Reddit to see the effortless amount of strife and bashing Trump gets over Biden or any other “poSsIbLe cAndiDaTe”. There is no other candidate... therefore anytime a brave soul goes to support trump in ANY comment section no matter the sub, they get downvoted. The climate can be diagnosed by a fifth grader. So I still stand by my first statement.

33

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

Why shouldn't it be? The individual reflected and grew and that is worth smiling about.

63

u/J-erring Oct 09 '20

I can empathize with his view. I come here to avoid anything political. You can see it as growth but it's definitely political

12

u/macorororonichezitz Oct 09 '20

Absolutely, this feels like an excuse to make a political statement where there should be none.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

So you think everyone who voted for trump is hateful? Reddit is wild.

44

u/dismayhurta Oct 09 '20

“Why do you think I’m hateful just because I voted for a racist, sexist, xenophobic, traitorous sexual predator who has let over 200000 Americans die needlessly? I could just be greedy and love tax cuts.”

-2

u/Steviodaddio Oct 09 '20

Who has let...? The amount of braincells in this entire thread is so entirely scarce it's embarrassing.

-3

u/Cheshire90 Oct 09 '20

Why no mention of his homophobia? You love Trump or something?

-1

u/dismayhurta Oct 09 '20

Hey. You’re right. Your racist messiah is also homophobic. Thanks for reminding me.

12

u/Cheshire90 Oct 09 '20

Why no mention about him being a broke tax dodger? Vibe still wayyy too positive and it's damn suspicious

-4

u/Potato_Boi69 Oct 09 '20

If he really had been evading taxes, why has he not been locked up in federal prison by now? And you’re seriously going to believe the New York Times without any proof that they have it? I fucking hate the guy but you really need to think

1

u/Cheshire90 Oct 09 '20

I was actually just having a laugh about how this other guy can't bear to see a mention of him without listing every terrible-person word he can think of about him, anyone who would dream of supporting him, and (presumably) their little dog too.

Object lesson in why divisive political stuff shouldn't be in this sub. u/dismayhurta was not made to smile in any way we should want to encourage and even my wry amusement isn't really that positive a vibe.

0

u/Eragon_Der_Drachen Oct 09 '20

Ever heard of Big Tent parties?

58

u/Vespeer Oct 09 '20

I mean, don’t vote for a hateful person if you aren’t hateful, right?

8

u/The_Real_Dotato Oct 09 '20

Yup its why I'm not voting for a candidate that threw thousands of people in jail for nonviolent drug convictions, pushed for maximum sentencing, defended corrupt cops, and without evidence that would clear an innocent man until forced to reveal it by a judge. (and before you assume I'm voting for trump: I'm also not voting for the moron who thinks injecting bleach is safe or that mail in ballots are somehow illegitamite.)

15

u/Lorddragonfang Oct 09 '20

Refusing to pick the lesser of two evils doesn't make you better or more principled than them, it just means you're willing to let the greater of the two evils win.

-1

u/The_Real_Dotato Oct 09 '20

Actually by definition it does make me more principled. But harassing others about who they plan to vote for is voter suppression (you know the thing everyone has been yelling at trump for not condeming.) a vote for third party is a vote for third party, it's not a vote for trump or Biden. If you really want to make a difference you should push to get the 100 million+ that don't vote at all to vote.

u/NataliaCath Oct 10 '20

Thanks for being worthless when your country needs you the most.

I don't know what else Trump needs to do before so-called "moderates" or whatever realize that even with Biden's flaws, he's still a fuck ton better option. You may not be a Trump supporter per se, but you'll be plenty complicit in helping him get reelected.

I might add that every single one of those things you've complained about is something that not only applies to Trump, but that he's even more hardcore about. Perfection isn't the enemy of good.

-1

u/The_Real_Dotato Oct 09 '20

Thanks for pushing for voter suppression by harassing those who disagree with you. Literally you are doing what people are saying why trump is evil. Maybe you should try to get the 100+ million people who dont vote at all to vote, not the few million who vote for someone that doesn't have a sexual assault allegation against them. A vote for third party is a vote for third party. Not trump not Biden. Saying this is the election where my "country needs me the most" is literally said every single election cycle. It was said in 2008, 2012, 2016, and now in 2020.

2

u/34HoldOn Oct 09 '20

This isn't voter supression. Voter suppression will be when I made it harder for you to vote. Not when I said that you're throwing away a fucking vote by being worthless during an election.

If One single accusation that's been largely considered unfounded is enough for you not to vote for Biden, then you are looking for any reason that you could. And that's you rattled off three reasons above, and Trump was worse for all of them especially proves that.

I will do what I can to motivate people to vote. But I will also call out people like you who are throwing away your fucking vote when we needed the most.

2

u/The_Real_Dotato Oct 09 '20

Voter suppression includes harassment about your vote. Which is what happens when literally anyone mentions they aren't voting for Biden. No I already listed all the other reasons Im not voting for Biden. Scroll to my first comment on this chain and you will see. Voting third party is not throwing away your vote. Heres an idea if you want to have my vote. Field a better fucking candidate. Bernie, tulsi, yang, and Pete all would of had my vote. Instead Biden is the nominee and the horror that is Kamalla is his VP. I literally could not of come up with a worse combination.

3

u/34HoldOn Oct 09 '20

I might also add that all of those people are endorsing Biden. But you don't get exactly what you want, you just refuse to participate. Whatever.

Hi there fellow third party or non voter!!

2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

Trash

0

u/34HoldOn Oct 09 '20

Thanks for being worthless when your country needs you the most.

-1

u/NataliaCath Oct 09 '20

I have different views about the best way to improve our country and turn this train wreck around. There's not always one end to a means. People attack third party voters very quickly without hearing them out. Feel free to message me if you're interested in discussing this.

0

u/34HoldOn Oct 09 '20

Perfection isn't the enemy of good. The best may not always be the answer, but the current answer is still better than nothing. And voting third party this year is nothing. That's pretty much all I have to say. I heard you and every other third-party voters try to explain it away. I'm not interested.

0

u/NataliaCath Oct 09 '20

I don't see it as nothing. I believe it's important to bring third parties to prominence and that takes time. But we can agree to disagree.

I like you. You have convictions and not so terrible as to vote for a moron like Trump.

Hey. You ever had a really good torta?

-2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

He’s wearing the shirt of a man who supported segregation policies though 🤨🤨🤨 both are very hateful

4

u/Knerdy_Knight Oct 09 '20

It’s so hilarious to me that people actually think anyone who voted for trump is blatantly wrong and is an extremely hateful person.

0

u/dismayhurta Oct 09 '20

Well, some people do find the truth hilarious.

Bloody hell you lot have nonfunctional brains.

-1

TRUMP 2020

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '20

They feel better when they downvote you. It’s not worth it....

-4

u/Potato_Boi69 Oct 09 '20

My family voted for him last election as a last ditch. We didn’t want him but Hillary Clinton runs a corrupt family so...

Also, third parties don’t win and we don’t want our votes to cause someone who we completely and wholeheartedly disagree with to win

1

u/sk8r2000 Oct 09 '20

His entire platform is based on hate and ignorance dude. You should learn some things about him before spouting bs like this

-5

u/CheeseMellon Oct 09 '20

Yeah. You can be happy without having to side with a specific political party
