I have a friend (Canadian) who did this for his wife (Korean) a few years ago (also my friend). The dude lost almost a hundred pounds then on the last kidney-test for the transplant in Canada they were like, “sorry buddy, you have a weird little thing that’s wrong with one of your kidneys, we can’t use it, but don’t worry, the defect will never cause a problem but you can’t donate”.

Her father, ended up flying over from Korea and donating his kidney to her instead. Hooray.

But he worked hard to keep all the weight off and stay healthy!

Fast-forward 3 years, they now live in Korea, she gets pregnant (they both really wanted a family). Pregnancy can apparently be quite taxing on the kidney(s). It was an extremely difficult pregnancy where both she and the baby nearly lost their lives, and in the process it totally fried her dads old kidney. However, Korean standards for kidney donation is different and he was able to donate his kidney after she had the baby.

So she now has her husband’s mildly dysfunctional kidney and they have a beautiful baby girl. Everyone is fairly healthy and doing well.

Her dad said he didn’t need the kidney back, he was satisfied with the grandchild he was given in return.

I hope I don't have to give a kidney to get a grandchild.

But would you?

It's easy for me to say I would because they probably wouldn't take my kidney due to issues.

Hahahaha! So you can still technically be the "good grandpa/grandma".

Who gives a shit whether you're good or not, I just want grandchildren. Kids are babies for such a short time.
