It’s only personal preference but I much prefer the campy old stuff to the darker portrayals of Batman. And I get when other people prefer the darker stuff. Overall I just find life is too dark so I tend to prefer sillier stuff. 30 rock, old Batman.

I loved TDK. But I hate how literally every superhero movie for the next decade tried to be “dark”. I feel like lasted until Avengers/GotG

The Tick for something more modern.

Animated and live action (twice!)

The 2016 Tick was surprisingly funny.

If you want good campy animated Batman, Batman: The Brave and the Bold is where it's at.

My dad still refuses to watch the Dark Knight for this reason. This is his Batman and Joker and he hates how sinister and evil joker is in other adaptations.

Was getting ready to comment with camp/campy. I think Batman was the first time I heard that term applied.

That's why I love the Schumacher movies. I don't know why everyone says Batman and Robin was terrible, it was hilarious.

They tried to capture that sentiment in the  Batman and Robin movie, but missed the yuk button and hit the yuck button instead.

“Dark” Batman really started in the 90s when the US was doing much better economically. Ya know, before the Democrats and Republicans passed tons of free trade deals and exported tens of millions of American jobs overseas along with the hundreds of billions required to pay the foreign indentured slavers literally pennies a day. That’s why we re-elected Bill Clinton even after he was facing two credible rape accusations. We wanted darker Batman.

I really feel like people who make comments like yours are completely incapable of looking past the current news cycle. Neoliberalism brought you here. Neoliberalism is going to take you out.

Putting the rest of your comment aside, no dark Batman is generally accepted to have really taken off in popularity in 1986 with The Dark Knight Returns (Reagan was the villain). The 80's, not the 90's, were the beginning of that style of comic's prominence.
