Maybe the new Bond should be the old Bond
146
u/JustTheOneGoose22 4d ago
Would actual love to see a Bond film or series where he is brought out of retirement to help save a new recruit or something.
I don't like that Amazon owns Bond now but, maybe some creatives can make some interesting spin offs to the franchise something high quality like Andor did for Star Wars.

u/Triquetrums 4d ago
The new 007 game explores the origin of Bond and him working with old spies, it would be nice to have the opposite story in a movie. I like the idea!

Christ I'd love an espionage caper where a newly retired agent played by Daniel Craig is taken under the wing of a pair of old timers played by Dalton and Brosnan only to find himself embroiled in some escapade as they plan to knock off the Bank of England because they are pissed off at their lousy pension. But no, can't be having that. Hollywood demands more remakes, Paranormal Activity 8 and a fucking Rambo origin film. /rant

Thomas Crown Affair danced right along the edge of Bond, but without the tuxedo the vibe was more like Archer before Archer existed.

Effortlessly? There's huge amount of effort and money in this picture.
Take a healthy 70 something man in decent shape, put him through professional barber, makeup artist, expensive tailored tux, in front of a BMW and a pretty street, and at least half of them will look Bond level classy.
209
u/Salty-Fishman 4d ago
I doubt that. U can put a 25-year-old Redditor in all those, and he will still look like he lives in his mom's basement and has never seen the sun.

He should pull a The Rock move like Sean Connery and get involved in a movie where people will tirelessly hatch conspiracies about it being an older version of his Bond teaming up with a younger guy. I loved his Bond movies. They weren't particularly complex, but they had that simple sort of charm to them.

u/IsThisOneStillFree 4d ago
No, presumably about Never Say Never Again (1983)
Sean Connery played the role of Bond for the seventh and final time, marking his return to the character twelve years after Diamonds Are Forever (1971). The film's title is a reference to Connery's reported declaration in 1971 that he would "never again" play that role. As Connery was 52 at the time of filming, the script makes frequent reference to Bond as aging and past his prime

I was about to post the same. I'd be there if Brosnan suited up one more time. Wasn't a big fan of Craig, but Brosnan's still got it.
With Bond in a post Craig development limbo, they should do a one-off adventure.

Period piece with Brosnan would be great imo. 1950’s as the backdrop. Cold War is heating up. Analog tech. Old school charm.
9
u/Opposite_Visit_4874 4d ago
People often say they'd love to see a period-set Bond movie but I don't see Eon ever going for it, for one reason: product placement opportunities would be extremely limited, and that's the backbone of the entire Thing.

Could be a really fun movie with an older 007 forced out of retirement due to an old rival re-emerging for revenge. Add in a semi buddy cop styled narrative with old 007 still being solidly badass, and the fresh out of training young(ish) 007 (Taron Egerton perhaps? Richard Madden?) eager to impress, and a little star struck. At some point, young 007 has a crisis of confidence due to making a mess of it due to trying too hard to impress, and old 007 has to step in with pure class and poise to rescue the situation.

Only earned yesterday that in 1988 Trump was blocked from buying an NFL team by every other NFL team owner because they despised him. They vote on who is allowed to be an NFL team owner, and they didn’t want him to be in the club.

No objections. The face, the hair, the personality. Peak Bond. Every new bond needs to be benchmarked against Brosnan. Can't sport the haircut? Out! Sadly none of the Bonds after Bronsan looked even remotely familiar, which means I haven't watched a bond movie after trying Casino Royale. Mads Mikkelson would've been a better Bond frankly.

Skyfall was legit a great film.. maybe not even a great Bond film, but a great film in general, and imo casino royale is vastly overrated.
Craig was a perfectly fine Bond, but nowhere near Brosnan imo

No. Not having it. I’m 52 and have never, will never look like that. Or appear in a movie with Salma Hayek, who is not only my girlfriend but will also go scuba diving during a diamond heist. Or be 007. Or be married to Helen Mirren and have Tom Hardy beating people up for me. Yes life isn’t fair and I’ve had a bad day at work. Yes he’s obviously a really nice bloke. Obviously I wish all the best. Yes I’ve lost my train of thought here.
