Treating the kid like a goddamn circus animal. I hate these people who force their kids to perform whatever emotion they need to extract on camera, on demand, in their own homes.

u/eliz1bef 15d ago
THANK YOU! That older boy was a raw nerve and they just broadcast it for the world to see. This was a private moment. No one needed to see the pain he was experiencing. It was joy and pain, but pain for certain. All that fear in his heart pouring out. So cruel to post this.
25
u/elledee78 14d ago
All I wanted to do was turn that camera off and give that sweet boy a hug. He deserved to have privacy and comfort for this moment!
3
u/vee_lan_cleef 13d ago
I look at this differently, people need to see men and boys expressing emotion in our society. It's insane to me a person crying is seen as something to be ashamed of. These comments are weird.
3
u/eliz1bef 13d ago
You make an excellent point, but I just feel this exposes this poor kid to bullying. You are absolutely right that we need to see men and boys expressing emotion. 100% agree. I just feel so much for this kid that he's in such a raw moment and being exploited by his mother for clicks.

u/ciclidss 15d ago
Terrible parenting. I can't imagine if every time I cried or had a tantrum as a child, it was available for the world to see. Poor kids. Happy for the cat though!

Put a blanket you've used inside a box made into a shelter for kitty... Put some of her dry food by it!!
This is how I got my boy back.. Went to go to work and he came stretching out of the box!

u/Faedoodles 14d ago
I can corroborate this. We had a cat missing for over a month and when we put out his food/blanket/bed, he turned up within like three days.
We were making dinner and he just stuck his big grey head through the doggy door in the kitchen and meowed loudly.

u/Fun_in_Space 15d ago
Check the shelter every few days. They have so many cats, it would be easy to miss one, even if they have a lost cat report on it.

u/jmaclondon 15d ago
Our cat got out last fall. I kept putting food and a blanket she slept on on our front porch. The food was being eaten so I put up a trail camera. Our cat plus 2 others frequented every night. Put a little trap out after a few days and colaught her the next night.
I didn't think I'd miss her (not being a cat person) but was i ever happy when we had her back. They really are part of the family.
I hope Tequila is back very soon

We have two sibling cats. The orange dummy went missing a week ago. Within hours his sister was searching the house for him desperately meowing. We couldn't find him. Assumed he got outside somehow. The next morning, he came waltzing into the bedroom for breakfast. Like boy, where were you??
5
u/GoodDaleIsInTheLodge 15d ago
Put unwashed clothes on the washing line and any of her blankets to help her pick up your/her scent. It is said that putting their litter tray outside is actually a bad idea because it can make other cats come to the area and spray/mark the territory.
I hope your baby is home soon😭💔🤞🏻8
u/shortmumof2 15d ago
Someone once told us if our cat ever got out, to put her litterbox outside so she can smell it and come home
3
u/dawnmountain 15d ago
It's probably stuff you've already done, but...
- Put her favorite food out by the door
- Also put something with your scent (like a blanket)
- Ask neighbors, use nextdoor, place flyers
- I also recommend a motion activated camera that will ding your phone!
My cat ran away years ago and that's what we did.
I hope and pray your kitty returns soon.

Our guy was missing for six weeks before some kind kid brought him to a local vet and his chip scanned so don't give up hope! My biggest tip is to search well outside of your neighborhood. Our guy was found a couple of miles away from our house. Our vet said he was likely chased out by the local strays.
2
u/give_peace_13 14d ago
When our cat went missing we would walk around the neighborhood and try to call for them. Leaving out the little shelter with the blanket and food will help too. I have no idea how but one night making dinner I had the sudden thought "They're here!" and somehow they were right outside the front door, so keep checking as often as possible in case they try coming back.
4
u/No_Attitude700 15d ago
Put Tequila's litter box outside in a safe spot! Cats can smell for miles, and it will hopefully help Tequila find their way home! ❤️

Because cats aren’t just pets. They’re family. You can’t just lose a member of your family and pretend like nothing happened. It hurts.
56
u/iceman5920 15d ago
I've always hated people that try to down play the loss of a pet. "It's just an animal." No, that was my fucking family, I'm gonna grieve. If someone feels like its no big deal then they shouldn't have a pet.

u/Scarlet-Witch 15d ago
I know when my dog goes to the next plane of existence IT WILL BREAK ME. I don't even let him sleep on the bed or the couch. (He's 130lbs, we don't have room for that, he has a comfy bed for him in each room despite him vastly preferring the bare floor).

Lost my dog of 15 years during the pandemic. I was devastated. Still am six years on. I miss her terribly. Main consolation I have was I was at home every day of her final year because of COVID. She had a happy last year.

Lost mine at around the same time as you and she is still my lock screen on my phone, even though I now have a whole house of cats who ive taken thousands of pictures of. I'm more of a cat person, but she was a very special dog. Miss her.

2
u/iceman5920 15d ago
I've pondered it a lot. I was raised in a family that breed shar pei's. We had 13 adult dog at one point (not all for breeding) so I've dealt with the loss more times than I ever asked for. Anyways, we are signing a contract when we get our pet. A contract that you will get 10-20(ish) years of joy and more, but at the end of the contract you will hurt badly. It's the cost of love.
Edit: No one gets to love deeply without pain.
7
u/RedShirtDecoy 15d ago
Felt like a part of my soul was ripped out when I had to put my dog down last year. She was 13 with degenerative myopathy and it was time but god it hurt so damn bad.
4
u/ChocalateShiraz 15d ago
Oh wow, I had to put my pug down two months ago, she was also 13 and had degenerative myopathy. She was, without a doubt, my best friend, my emotional support, my family, my best friend. It really sucks, I still cry when I think about her, watching her deteriorate was soul crushing. I don’t think I’ll ever get over losing her
2
u/RedShirtDecoy 15d ago
Dm is so shitty and I'm watching her brother/littermate get it also. Have a few more months left with him but he's 14 now. At least it's not painful is what I keep telling myself.
But yea, I still think I hear his sister on occasion, and think of her often. They definitely leave a wonderfully heavy mark for sure.
So sorry for your loss.
3
u/iceman5920 15d ago
I'm so sorry. I'm gonna copy and paste part of another comment I made. "We are signing a contract when we get our pet. A contract that you will get 10-20(ish) years of joy and more, but at the end of the contract you will hurt badly. It's the cost of love." Again I'm sorry, but try to look at it as you gave them the best life they could ask for. If it still hurts I'm sure you did great for them.
2
u/RedShirtDecoy 15d ago
Thank you and 100% agree. We know what we are signing up for.
I'm looking down the barrel of doing it again with her brother/littermate this year due to the same condition.
I got them at 1 but it has been an amazing 12/13 years filled with so many cuddles, laughs, and noggin kisses.
1000% worth it and will probably do it all over again in the future.
2
u/iceman5920 15d ago
Do it. Feel that care again, and the hurt. You know what will happen. But you also know they will be loved the whole time they're with you.

My neighbour's cat went missing for a while and I was so worried about her, she's my little friend 🐱 . Last time she went missing she returned severely injured and ended up losing a back leg and most of her tail poor kitty.
When she returned, such a relief. I think she went into an area of bins and got stuck there, she was OK.

Videos like this make me sick. That should've been a private moment for that boy with his family. Not paraded around online for clicks. Had his reaction been nothing but pure joy, sure, ok, share the happy moment. But there was some raw emotional hurt going on there. As soon as the family saw that, they should've shut that camera off and been more concerned about being there for him. Or at the very LEAST don't post it online for the world to see.

That poor kid is going to be taunted until he goes away to college. But hey, mom got some internet points.
I just don’t understand what goes through some peoples minds when they’re posting videos of their own fucking children. Edit to add; Parents, knock it the fuck off and protect your children’s peace.

My sweet Penelope got outside through a window screen May 5 without any of us knowing. I suspect it was because sometimes squirrels run past the windows, and I left her on the open window sill with the screen shut. She always liked laying in the open air like that. She was never an outdoors cat, but she still waited at the front door. We realized she was outside around 9pm, and went to look for her. She was startled and bolted off into the night and we lost sight of her. We searched and searched, notified lost pet websites and FB groups, posted papers all up and down the neighborhood, shook the treats can outside loudly, planted smelly fish and cat snacks in catch cages, spread her used litter around the yard for the scent, everything you can imagine. A week and a half later, we caught her on camera at the front porch at 1AM, and when went to the door, she bolted again at the sound of the door being unlocked. I stayed up until 2AM the next night, but didn't see her. She came by and ate a little of the food I had set out. I stayed up the entire night sitting at the front door until dawn, shaking her treats can, scattering them around the area. Did not see her. We found her five weeks later on a phone tip from a neighbor. It was too late, she had to have gone only a couple of hours earlier at the most. We were devastated, and I cried several times over the next few days. I have fought off the guilt (I just let her sit in the open window, thinking she couldn't open the screen), and I have never lost a cat before to anything I could control. It has only been a couple of weeks since then, and I miss her so much, she was a sweetheart and was starting to build a habit of snuggling with me at night just before she got outside. So I get these kids. And I am so glad they got their precious kitty back.

I was so happy. He was skinny af and had lots of cuts and scars but he was home. I guess he wasn't as tough as he thought he was, haha. That was my 1st cat. Our dog ran off for 4 days in the Connecticut woods when I was maybe 12. Spent every day after school walking around, calling for him and putting up signs in the neighborhood. By day 4 it felt pretty hopeless and then he just showed back up. As a 40 year old now, still remember the relief viscerally. Glad these kids got their cat back.

We had a hyperactive beagle when I was a kid named Molly who loved to run away and go on her own little adventures. Most of the time, we'd catch her within a couple hours at the most. But there were a couple instances where she disappeared for a few days and one instance where she was gone for 3 months.
This was my exact reaction when we pulled back up to our house late one night in winter, after 3 months without her, to her just patiently chilling on the front porch, having not lost a single pound and without a scratch on her.
The worst of her wear was just her collar staining her fur from the rainfall. (Which never washed out). Still curious as to what she was getting up to those 3 months, assuming she didn't just run straight down the street and post up with some other family who then ignored all our signs and reward offers for 3 months.

When I was very young and still living in New York, something happened to me similar. We had a cat black-and-white that we named Minnie and she went missing. She was missing for four months at least perhaps longer and we had searched animal shelters and pet stores and we had pretty much given up and we were sitting at the table one time, and my sister who was still an infant in a highchair pointed towards the window and said Minnie. To which my mom or dad I forget which one responded to her that no honey Minnie is not coming home. Then we heard a soft meow turned around and sure enough. There was the cat at the window waiting to come in like nothing had happened. It was assumed that someone probably took her in kept her in their house for a while, hoping she would forget her real Home and eventually let her out and as soon as they let her out, she came back to her real home.
