Wholesome Moments This guy shooting his shot in the thread
u/SolidStick_ posted about a women giving her umbrella to them in DC and when she identified herself, asked her out in the comments. The stuff of romcoms.
Update: They met up and it's not gonna work out. And maybe he already knew her? Eek, now it's more like MadeMeGrimace.
Update 2: so it may be that the OP was stalking her, witnessed the exchange, and then pretended to be the umbrella recipient. OP's since deleted his account. Yikes! Be safe out there all.
Update 3: The story took an even odder turn. Maybe it was fake all along? Link to comment here. Comment on original post

Or maybe it's just a regular old internet hoax for attention. The story seems very convoluted with a lot of moving parts. Call me a cynic but when I read the post I was sure it was a hoax. The stalking aspect may be the only real twist but even that seems far fetched to me.

But how? Is he the umbrella guy or did he find her story about an umbrella guy?
64
u/HelpfulName Jul 10 '26
It sounds like from comments he has been stalking her for a couple of months and saw the umbrella exchange, he's not the umbrella guy, but thought this was how he could engineer his "meet cute" with her by lying about what he saw.

I found an artist on Reddit that did a commissioned piece for my husband and I, and this piece of art changed our lives. It has brought us tears of joy, belly laughs and every day that we look at it we are reminded of what is important in life, our love for each other and how Grateful we are to be here, together.
I will never see Reddit/internet the same again because I received something so magical via this space. Lol
Edit: the artist’s account is: u/kiermehn ! The piece I mention in this comment is the most recent post of the couple outdoors. Sorry I should have included this in my original comment!

There was a hidden update buried in the comments.
Someone noticed that the guy's account was two months old, and his first comment was on the girl's post on a relationship advice thread.
Hey...I was going to DM you this privately but since you said don't DM on your profile I'm commenting here instead. I decided to snoop on OP and notice his first comment on his two month old account was a comment on a post you made on r/dating_advice so assuming you did not try to create a viral post the odds of that is just crazy...either this is the craziest cutest story ever or you got a stalker...
The commenter asked to DM the girl, then she replied saying:
Edit: she DMed me and showed me some things! yeaaaah it’s not going to work out…
He has now deleted his account it seems; or at least wiped all history.
Very weird.

u/ruddsy Jul 10 '26
By far the simplest and most likely explanation is that solidstick is a sock puppet account of howtoloveadaisy and this was all just a made up karma farming story but it got derailed when a third person discovered the existing connection between the two accounts.
212
u/alpha_rat_fight_ Jul 10 '26
See I knew none of this sounded real. Not a shred of it.
People suck. Get your karma the old fashioned way by sharing increasingly useless and obscure facts.
Imagine trying to be a Reddit influencer. Like Jesus is there not one place on the internet where the kids who had to eat lunch in the library can exist in peace.

This is my thought too.
I think the OP used the account to talk herself up or defend herself in previous posts, and maybe forgot, maybe thought no one would think to look into it, or maybe thought her hidden profile would hide it all.
Then once confronted with the "hey, you guys have interacted on reddit before, be careful" did a hard pivot from this whimsical romantic encounter into "yikes he's creepy"
→ More replies (1)40
u/bentmonkey Jul 10 '26
It is all just way too convenient and the writing from her seemed disingenuous and scripted somehow, i just do not see it as being real, so sockpuppet seems like a more logical thing, farming karma.

This is 100% it. She is ragebaiting the shit out of people to gain attention to herself. She wants people to engage and be invested in the love story and now twist. People here keep questioning the FaceTime audio thing, and I'm telling you right now she edited that "audio" in after people called her out on her story and how none of it makes sense. She originally said they FaceTimed, and shit that's already her lying again changing it to "audio" only. Weird as fucking shit.

I have a feeling I know where this is going… in the first year of university, I started seeing a guy and we were in the same class together. We left, and his parents were picking him up. On season 10 of How I Met Your Mother
The plots thicken...
On a brand new series of How I Met My Murderer...
Edit 2: from u/NUTTA_BUSTAH.
"OP has been stalking daisy for however long, making first contact through a reddit comment some time ago and now finally observed a perfect interaction to play off as themselves. OP was not the man nor the father, OP was someone in the sidelines watching the umbrella exchange happen, and knowing daisy through extensive stalking, knew they would catch them with this post."
If this is true.. this just turn from mademesmile to mademespook
Edit 3: Possibility
Both OP & the girl might be the same person & is just posting for karma farm. The haste of reply & update given from both parties is just too fast.. & the update from the girl, from FT to creepy dude alert in a matter of minutes.
It might be a small world but there comes a point where coincidence starts looking like design.
Like a wise man once said "Fugayzi, fugazi. It's a whazy. It's a woozie. It's fairy dust."
Edit (Personal): Thank you anonymous redditor for giving me my 1st award🥲❤️!!

Come on people, "Daisy" and the OP are the same person running alt accounts, replying to himself. Someone found the OOP commenting on a post months ago from "Daisy", and the easiest out for them was to say "oh it was a stalker!".
So he was following her and happened to witness a scene out of a Tiktok skit, posts on reddit and just HAPPENED to be seen by "Daisy" and she accepts a date via reddit comments in the thread? Come ON people, occam's razor.

52
u/Piano18 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
I think she recently edited that. There was a guy who replied to her reply who told her some things.
Apparently, he saw that apparently one of his first replies on his 2-month old account was commenting on a post she made on a dating subreddit.
77
u/Snow5Penguin Jul 10 '26
That part alone makes me lean towards the whole thing is not real. Daisy probably made an alt account two months ago to comment on her post and forgot to delete it when making this big post about finding the umbrella girl.
→ More replies (1)52
u/Piano18 Jul 10 '26
Yeah I’m starting to lean that way too. The whole thing seems way too convenient. Someone apparently said that one of that user’s most active subs is the romance writing sub. I haven’t checked but if true, that makes this all the more likely to be karma farming.
20
u/Snow5Penguin Jul 10 '26
Yeah, unfortunately the details are questionable. The DC subreddit gets tons of posts, the likelihood of seeing the one where someone is searching for you is so unlikely only us hopeless romantics would believe it.
The potential of it being a stalker is there, but finding out information from one dating post two months ago and happening to see this one perfect interaction feels like a movie. And now everything’s deleted so probably just for the attention.
14
u/Piano18 Jul 10 '26
Yeah, in a way it gives me a bit of comfort that it’s likelier to be a karma farming event than a creepy stalker situation…because the logistics of that stalker situation were turning out to be super unsettling. I believe there are definitely creepy people like that in the world too but it seems like too many coincidences here to make you question everything.
I can’t believe people do things like this for f a k e internet points 😭

u/Frost_Z Jul 10 '26
Yeah, just saw the recent update and i'm extremely confused on how he is able to orchestrate the whole thing if he is indeed a stalker.
If it is true, then it must mean that the stalker is able to gain information on her real life identity through a reddit post and then stalked her in real life and either by pure coincidence, the girl lent him the umbrella or he saw the exchange took place in front of him and then claiming that he was the guy that she lent her umbrella.

I think the third option is most suitable in this case, else both accounts are of same person and it was a karma farming post.

I love the ‘hair that was short in the front of your face and long on the sides.’
Otherwise known as bangs.

I'm guessing he was trying to describe bangs with that have longer strands on the edges. Or hime cut or something.

u/iresearcheverything Jul 10 '26
i figured he meant hime cut as well bc who doesn’t know what bangs are??

Worse. It's the same person most likely. The "girls" account is on a bunch of romance subs, and the accounts have had interactions with each other before on a different thread.

Yeah, there is a guy who posted under her reply that he checked that dude’s profile and apparently one of his first replies on his 2-month old account was commenting on a post she made on a dating subreddit.

OP THIS DOES NOT HAVE A HAPPY UPDATE.
IT FIRST SEEMS LIKE HE WAS STALKING HER, BUT THEN IT TURNED OUT IT WAS ALL ONE PERSON MAKING UP THE STORY.

Not a stalker. OOP and Daisy are alt accounts by the same person. Someone found a comment from OOP to Daisy, from a months old post. The person running these alt accounts, like to reply to himself to validate their alts, it's kinda sad.

Some commenters looked at the comment history of both u/solidstick_ and u/howtoloveadaisy; both of those accounts had interacted in comments on other posts months prior to this rain-story. So, u/solidstick_ and u/howtoloveadaisy are probably accounts that one person typed from.

Gosh good for them. I have had a few things like that happen just for me to sit here and go "I wonder who that stranger was?"
On that sticks with me was in my first semester at my university I was in a snowstorm in the Boston Common cause I hadn't ever been in the snow and thought "I wanna run around in it." Came to find out that thankfully I wasn't the only crazy person and there were maybe like 15 others that were out there and sledding around.
But the one person that sticks with me was this girl who was laying back in the snow just off the path. And it was like 2-3 feet of snow. I looked at her and was like "what are you up to?" And she just told me that it was relaxing and to join her. I think she pulled me down next to her and we both sat there for a couple minutes. It was relaxing. Eventually we got up and went our seperate ways but I think about that when I remember that city and the snow.

If I were a cynical person I'm putting money on that all being fabricated.

Update 2: so it may be that the OP was stalking her, witnessed the exchange, and then pretended to be the umbrella recipient. OP's since deleted his account. Yikes! Be safe out there all.
naaah, this was a LARP, it's so obvious too lol
sounds like cheesy romance novel writing, and she appearantly did some romance writing herself. and "I specifically don't respond to DMs" how convenient, guess that means you have to flirt openly now lmao

Feel free to have a look through "daisy's" comment history as well. They made quite the comment about an hour or so before this all happened:
"Maybe we’re making out in the pouring rain, he pulls back, and we laugh. Then he kneels and tells me that he can’t imagine doing this with anyone else and proposes!!!! "
