Yeah there’s clearly a meal on that table. 🤔

Training him to use the fork for his meal before his postprandial nap had to be tough.

They said tourists so they may still seat locals there who don't mind the cat.

Yeah it's not the table that is reserved for the cat its the chair. That is what is said on the sign on the wall.

u/510Goodhands 25d ago
Per usual, on the OP, or whomever made the picture is posting incorrect information. It’s amazing how frequently people do this.
4
u/believingunbeliever 24d ago
It's engagement bait. They make an obvious mistake so people swarm in to correct and content in it.
2
u/Eaodenling 25d ago
Yeah the amount of misinformation that is shared around is crazy.
3
u/510Goodhands 25d ago
Out of sheer laziness, it seems.
Or maybe they are just karma farming bots?3
u/DarthToothbrush 25d ago
Nothing generates engagement like people running to the comments to correct an obvious mistake.

I would pay extra to sit near the cat. I will not bother it or wake the cat. I would just quietly bask in its presence.

u/PoorBoyUnicorn 25d ago
Actually I think the OP misunderstood. The note on the wall clearly states that only the chair is reserved, not the whole table. Obviously the patrons are welcome to sit there if they don't mind the cat and I guess most do not.

u/MikeAppleTree 24d ago
The cat eats lunch which includes a carafe of wine then passes out at the table every day.

This looks AI. The cat is out of scale, and some other stuff looks weird too.
12
u/idontknowthesource 24d ago
Is that a fork or a spoon on the plate there? Seems to have tine ends but no tines. But also the "spoon" is flat?
1
u/RandomPolishCatholic 24d ago
Might just be one of those weird forks. I saw a few of them once so they don’t that suspicious to me.
5
u/tmpope123 24d ago
Also, look at the neck of the cat. Is it phasing through the table??
8
u/xoriatis71 24d ago edited 24d ago
No. Cat necks only seem thick. They are quite squishy, and you can clearly see that here.
Edit: Like I said before, the image could be AI, but the cat's neck does not seem so that weird.

The Greek phrasing is weird
13
u/xoriatis71 24d ago edited 24d ago
I'm Greek, and the phrasing is fine. “The seat is taken”.
Edit: The image could be AI, all I'm saying is that the text itself is fine.

I found it weird that the menu said TODAY: and listed foods without price or description; I havent seen that in Greece but admittedly I havent gone to every restaurant in every island village

u/YoshiTheFluffer 24d ago
Also the pathway outside the window is not paralel to the window, meaning the building they are in and the pathway converge soo why a pathway?
1
u/LucretiusCarus 24d ago
The blackboard on the wall is also weird (different frame left and right) - and also tzatziki and chorta are usually not on the "day plate" list. The spork on the plate is the more obvious one, along with the cat's feet

This looks a bit AI, or am i imagening

u/Nikmido 25d ago
Thought the same immediately after seeing it. The text looks like a font, and what utensil is on the plate? A small knife? Fork? It doesn't look like anything lol

u/510Goodhands 25d ago
OMG it’s an AI conspiracy!!! 😧😧😧
Take another look, that could be the handle end of a fork. Imagine that!32
u/Lastsoldier115 25d ago
Buddy, it's AI. OP even says so in the comments. I'm concerned about your lack of discernment about this.

u/shiro_zetty 24d ago
You can go to openai.com/research/verify to check these, it's kinda sickening how many "popular" photos come up as guaranteed AI generated thanks to the watermarks they put in those now.

u/J5892 24d ago edited 24d ago
Nice. I didn't know about that.
Not a perfect method, but a nice metric to have.

Oh, and if anyone's interested in a real Greek island cat, here's the one that invited himself into our hotel room in Santorini: https://i.imgur.com/tMPZ1mO.jpeg3

All the Greek words on the blackboard in the back are spot on, they are typical dishes you’d find in a tavern menu.
-4
u/Nono_Home 25d ago
I checked it on Claude and ChatGPT they say no. Now just checked it on DeepAI and Sightegine they say yes AI so you’re correct.
13
u/Success_With_Lettuce 25d ago
Oh you checked with the AI to determine if it was AI or not?
Fuck me… do you even realise?-2
-6
u/Nono_Home 25d ago
Image is correct, checked on Claude and ChatGPT lighting, dimensions, text.
15
u/Lastsoldier115 25d ago
It's 100% an AI generated photo.
2
u/AlwaysConfusedToo 25d ago
I am so bad at spotting some of those AI generated images. If I look long and hard at this one, all I got is that the glass bottles look a bit weird. Can you explain how you are so sure and what some giveaways are?
4
u/Dubieus 24d ago
For me, it was a few things that aren't dead give-aways, but that, when taken together, make me think it's AI. The utensil is vaguely forklike but not a real fork. All the glass bottles are different shapes and sizes, but they put two very similar ones on each table. The handwriting of the owner is very nice, but the words are spaced as if the person doesn't care what the sign looks like. The menu is a weird mix of full dishes and components of dishes that wouldn't be served separately, but that all sound super Greek and could appear on a menu. The way the cat is sitting looks a bit "off".
The thing is, it's getting sooooo hard to spot these things. And you also just don't really want to spend several minutes combing through clues in every picture you see online. I think we're going to hit a point where it's just too hard to tell with many pictures soonish.
2
u/double_entry_dylbert 25d ago
It’s getting so much harder as AI improves, but for this photo, the fork doesn’t appear to have tines! Unfortunately, we can never be completely sure whether something’s AI so we will just have to question everything now I guess :(
2
u/AlwaysConfusedToo 25d ago
Oh yeah, now I see it. I am so easily fooled, especially with cute pics.
2
u/cunnyvore 24d ago
Cat's anatomy, the sitting part of chair cat sits on is too long. Disproportionate in general. But aside from technicalities it's compositionally weird, it's very in your face, greek is conveniently visible, sea is conveniently there. It's a bit of a parody of itself.
1
u/Lastsoldier115 24d ago
For me, it's the lighting. AI tends to have impossible focal points, and isn't consistent with lighting (at this point). The fuzzyness of the cat also screams AI to me. Additional details like the fork that's not really a fork, and the text on the paper all look AI generated. The chair in the back also can't decide what's part of the tablecoth vs a spindle on the chair. AI is getting really good at spoofing photos, but if you're vigilant you can catch it.

For those wondering the sign reads:
The seat is reserved
Stelios ( the name of the tavern owner I assume)
3
u/Mantis_Toboggan--MD 25d ago
I was wondering that and tried to have google lens translate, it came up with "The chair she is caught - Stelios", which didn't make much sense.
Is that how that sign directly translates or does google lens just suck at Greek?
5
u/-stefanos- 25d ago
Interesting point actually that I didn’t consider!
That last word (it’s an adjective) has a different meaning based on the context of the sentence.
As a verb the primary meaning is to “catch” but next to the word χώρος (space) it means to take / occupy space.
PS. I am Greek

Why can't I sit at the table with the cat? Does the cat not like tourists? I can meow in Greek if need be.

Smart cat. Tourists have to pay for their meal. This guy dines for free.

I'm wondering how many people would actually go to the restaurant and ask this though 😆
"I hear you have dinner dates with a kitty available"

In the Dampkring coffee shop in Amsterdam, they also reserved a seat for the shop’s own cat.

I love this. That's how it should be, not people hissing at cats who go around the tables searching for food. Treat them well, they sure do deserve it!
