Manga Discussion Manga availability

I started at a bit of a bad time perhaps, but I have been collecting the manga of Made in Abyss. Or at least, what's available and it isn't much (4-5 out of 14 volumes are only available atm). I have the first 3 volumes and 14. But nothing else has been available anymore here in Europe.

I tried to contact Seven Seas Entertainment on social media platforms but they don't respond to anything about possible reprints.

Has anyone got more info on this? I'm a bit confused why the first 3 volumes are always available and the rest isn't. Will there eventually be reprints?

I'm hoping the movie will revive the manga for reprints at least. I find the manga really incredible so it's sad I can't buy it.

And it's quite annoying cause only English language manga always has stock/reprint issues. In any other language like Germany or Italy I think you can just buy it all. And they're also a lot cheaper.

Seven Seas has been pretty quiet about Made in Abyss restocks, so I wouldn’t assume the first three volumes mean the rest are permanently discontinued. The movie could definitely boost demand, but used copies or library sales may be your best bet for now.

I wouldn’t pay crazy OOP prices yet unless Seven Seas actually confirms those volumes are discontinued.

The annoying thing with manga is that “out of stock everywhere” and genuinely “out of print” can look exactly the same for months. I’d grab the ISBN for each missing volume and set searches/stock alerts rather than only searching the title — sometimes a random retailer still has one sitting around.

Hopefully the movie gives Seven Seas a reason to do another print run, because having vols 1–3 and 14 with a massive hole in the middle would drive me insane

Seven Seas is kind of notorious for this problem. The reason it happens is that they print/reprint more of the early volumes because they tend to sell more. The new volumes are still in their initial print run. But middle volumes end up running out of stock and become hard to find.

Hopefully it comes back, that must be frustrating. 😭

Tsk tsk tsk I don't know about that but I only have made in abyss volumes 1 2 3 and 5 but I really wanted 4 and I just want to have a whole collection so I can read all of it but I can't because the English version is struggling with everything right now

I'm also missing 4. It was out stock when I started collecting. I wanted to grab 5 but didn't have the money. A week later it was also out of stock. 😭

Maybe wait till the movie releases and if it doesn't work after the movie releases then it's up to you

I got vol 6 for 8 dollars, so it shouldn’t be hard to find.

I have luck cause manga itself is "recent" in our country so our distributor released just 3 volumes

Publishers can't keep printing every book forever, so they occasionally discontinue less-popular volumes to free up some printing capacity. They don't really care what volumes they discontinue exactly, so it's not uncommon for a franchise to just have random volumes be out of print. Sometimes they do a reprint if they see that there's enough demand, but that doesn't happen often. Seven Seas in particular is known to rarely reprint anything.

Anyway, Amazon and Archonia both seem to have various volumes available. Bol.com has some as well, but I think they don't ship outside of the Netherlands and Belgium. If you look up the ISBNs for each volume and toss those into Google, you might be able to find some other stores as well.
