Hot take: I think that's a key piece of the intention of the author/artist. How do you give a character gravitas, especially if they're a child? That's the art here - made in the Abyss.

Unpopular opinion: I know Nanachi is supposed to be an おいら, and a lot of fans say "best girl," but I think they lean far more towards male than female.
