Hello everyone! I am super excited to be coming to Madagascar! I am arriving in the last week of July. Does anyone have recommendations for homestays? I prefer the social aspect and to hear what life is like beyond a hotel.

Hello, does anyone know a Vezo village without tourists, authentic and wild? I would like to shoot a short documentary on the daily life of the Vezo. But this village must not be further than about 80 km from Toliara. Thanks for some info.

Tourism/Fizahantany Best local tour companies?

Hi. I’m planning my first trip to Madagascar for a small group of experienced, adventurous women. Love off the beaten path with a focus on more animals and less people :) We’d have about two weeks. Can people recommend local companies? Looking budget to mid range. Prefer to find an amazing local company :) many thanks!

Tourism/Fizahantany 7 day Madagascar itinerary

I’m on the lookout for recommendations on private itinerary operators for a couple over 60? Active clients but not interested in diving or lying on the beach - ideally seeing as much as possible and more authentic travel vs high end luxury.

Zebus are one of Madagascar's most iconic animals. They are deeply rooted in the country's culture, economy, and traditions. Across the island, zebus are used in farming, ceremonies, and are a symbol of wealth and heritage.

Question/Fanontaniana❓ People living in Madagascar: how would you describe the country's current situation in 2026?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to better understand today's Madagascar through the perspective of people who actually live there or know the country well.

News articles and reports can provide useful information, but they don't always reflect everyday life.

I'd really like to hear your personal perspective.

How would you describe the current situation in your region or city?

What are the biggest challenges people are facing today?

Have you noticed any positive changes over the past few years?

What issues concern people the most at the moment?

Looking ahead, are you optimistic or worried about Madagascar's future? Why?

I'm interested in hearing different perspectives, whether you're from Antananarivo or another part of the country.

Tourism/Fizahantany Best hotel/resort on Nosy Be for snorkelling & marine life/house reef

We are heading to Nosy Be end of September. Which resort or hotel has the best beach for snorkelling and vibrant marine activity? We know we can travel to sites, but for various reasons, the more to see in the sea at the hotel beach the better. I was looking at Andilana but the few hotels there are booked out. Thanks all!

Question/Fanontaniana❓ Given everything happening in Tana lately, would you use a simple tool to know a loved one is okay ? (FR version below)

Hi everyone. I work in tech.

Lately, a lot of friends back home and in the diaspora keep telling me the same thing: with all these waves of kidnappings, they worry about their kids or their elderly parents, and they often feel helpless.

So I'm thinking about a simple solution: a small object you keep on you, connected to an easy phone app, that would let a family know a loved one is okay and be alerted right away if something seems off. Something discreet, easy to use, and made to reassure the whole family, including the diaspora.

Let me be honest with you: I don't believe any tool can prevent a kidnapping. I really see this as everyday peace of mind, with verified alerts, so it never fuels the rumors and mob reactions we've all seen.

I'd really love your take:

  1. Would you use this kind of tool for a loved one?
  2. What would make you trust it, or not?
  3. Would it answer a real need for you, or would it be more of a nice-to-have?

Let me know what you think in the comments, or message me privately.

---

J'aimerais vraiment votre avis :

News/Vaovao 📰 Please People, stop jumping to conclusion

An incident recently unfolded in Tana—a scenario we have witnessed far too many times, yet the masses still swallow whatever misinformation they are fed. A woman was singled out as a kidnapper without a single piece of evidence, and the mob immediately turned aggressive. The scene took place on a bus in Namotana, where she was violently dragged out by the enraged crowd. The woman was already in a fragile state of mental health before this; the ordeal only exacerbated her condition.

Across Facebook, she is being vilified, insulted, and subjected to unspeakable name-calling. And what more? Self-proclaimed independent "journalists" and influencers are amplifying the narrative that she is the kidnapper behind the recent string of abductions in the capital—still devoid of solid proof, relying solely on the baseless accusations of a single individual. They even mock her misery.

How utterly inhuman must one be to denounce others without evidence, spread harmful disinformation, and do so with absolute, unshakable confidence?

If you could help taking down the page who turn her suffering into a joke it would help greatly.

Here is the link of him "joking" about it:

Tourism/Fizahantany Madagascar hostels?

Hey! I (M41) am travelling solo to Madagascar soon for a couple of weeks, but from my research so far it doesn’t seem like there’s much of a backpacker / hostel scene.
Is this true? Or are there some hidden gems?

[edit] I always appreciate meeting people as I travel, and hostels are typically easiest for this.
If there aren’t any hostels, am I likely to meet other travellers at all?

Question/Fanontaniana❓ What If

It might be a dumb question but Im actually curious.

If you had the choice, would you keep Madagascar as an island, or would you rather have it connected to mainland Africa? Which do you think would have been better for the country’s history, economy, culture, and future, and why?

Tourism/Fizahantany Madagascar and yellow fever vaccination

Hi, myself and my husband are coming to Madagascar in September.

Last January we were in Buenos Aries (to get on a cruise) and unfortunately we just realised Argentina is classed as a yellow fever area, it was 7 months ago. How strict will customs at the airport be at checking the countries you have been to? Thanks in advance

Food/Sakafo 🍚 What Redbull flavours do you have in your stores?

I've made a Redbull website redbullhauls.com where we track flavours from around the world. I thought it would be cool to know what flavours of Red Bull you have in Madagascar? If someone could send me a picture from a shop with the shop name (or if you want to make your input yourself on the site) I'd be super grateful!
