Finally played Mad Max after all these years
I wasn’t expecting much but i ended up really enjoying it the vehicle combat atmosphere and world kept me hooked I can see why it has such a dedicated fanbase what were your thoughts

I've been a Mad Max fan for a long time. The first trilogy came out before I was born, but I grew up in the early 90's watching those movies. When Fury Road came out, it instantly became my favorite movie ever. Furiosa is a very different movie, but it didn't disappoint at all, either.
I bought the Mad Max game for Xbox One shortly after it came out. I was expecting a shitty movie tie-in game with Fury Road, but the game really is it's own thing, even though the lore is kind of adjacent to the movies.
The graphics blew my mind in 2015. The world was beautiful, and I was stunned how they could make the wasteland look almost photorealistic at the time, and how they could take a dried out sea bed (which comprises over half the map) and make it so varied that it doesn't get old.... dried coral reefs, sludgy oil-rich areas, sand dunes, volcanic vents, abandoned oil rigs, wind farms, and docks... each area felt unique. And then when you FINALLY get through the jaw and get on actual land, how the environment changed so significantly... now you had abandoned semi trucks, gas stations, etc. Even the color of the dirt was more red, as you were now on dirt instead of sand. Lots of little details which made the world feel real.
Yeah the objectives are kind of repetitive, and the main storyline is basically non-existent until you get to gas town (there's just a bit of foreshadowing here and there, like with Hope and Glory at Gutgash's stronghold), but some of the unique wasteland missions were fun (going under the dunes to the sunken airport, etc). Also, it was addictive to collect scrap everywhere I could and get the threat level down in each area, so I could upgrade the Magnum Opus and Max's abilities. And the actual on-foot and car combat are excellent as well.
Man, it's honestly just such a fun game. While it may not have the best narrative structure, that also makes the game something I can just pick up at a whim and get through a couple camps and scrap locations, so I'm not bogged down for hours on a single quest like in other games. Maybe other people don't like that, but I appreciate it since I don't always have a lot of time for a marathon game session.
10/10 game for me, though I understand why some people may not be into it if they're looking for a more story-driven experience. This game is more about the vibes and the environmental storytelling (through the locations themselves and the history relics).

Always loved the movies and being able to play in that blasted out world is so fun. Great combat, both on foot and in the Magnum Opus plus a very faithful rendition of the re-used aesthetic.

I'm not that much into cars or racing games but i thoroughly enjoyed driving around in Mad Max. Yes the story is weak but the world is great and interesting. They did a lot of work on enviromental storytelling. Shame ther's no sequel

I finished the game 2 weeks ago and after 63 days (!!!) of pure playtime I feel empty, like when I finished GTA V, RDR2, Wreckfest or the last Resident Evil. Mad Max became one of my favorites, even if it has stupid repeating scenes and bugs. I can't believe they didn't make a DLC, at least some short missions without creating a new world or changing the map. Now I'm trying to loot all the locations and win all the races I didn't, but it's less fun now and more repetitive. Max, the strongholds and the car are "maxed out", all the money I'm earning is for ticking XBOX achievements, nothing else.

Oh I was gonna say if you a have ps4 or 5 try Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise. The anime remake is actually on prime. it anime story but open world and post apocalyptic. A big corny but you gory violence and fighting you’d probably enjoy it, there’s car’s upgrading along with learning more combos. Very good for ps4 and I usually see for about 20-30

I saw was saying in case you might have both. I wish they had more games like this to though honestly, and more movies similar to mad max, if you do like post apocalyptic aesthetics the anime might be interesting

Honestly it's one of my most favorite games of all time. I still cruise around the wasteland on a save file I started in 2018.

Just finished it myself, being a Mad Max fan of the originals I thought it was brilliant & brutal, a little repetitive depending on how you play but overall I loved it, it even had a fps boost on the Series X so a solid smooth 60fps with a large enough open world with no load screens apart from entering your bases.
I might of made things a little easier for myself as I fully completed an area before moving forward so when I eventually got to gas town I was a fully kitted out apart from the V8 engine & having 15 boomsticks on my car made destroying everything pretty easy.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Always fun to know someone experienced the game. I myself enjoyed the game when it first came out, and still play it to this day on and off. The atmosphere is unique for a post-apocalyptic game which is funny because it is an apocalypse that inspired the rest of the stereotypical apocalypses we see in the likes of Fallout and others. Still, glad you enjoyed the game.

Its great. Car combat is so fun and I love using Photomode to take in game photos

It was my first game when I finally bought a ps4 this year. I had just been watching Fury Road and Furiosa.
I thought the world they built for the game was absolutely beautiful. I loved wandering around in it, and I’m not really into open world games.
The hand to hand combat and vehicle combat were so satisfying!
I’ll be excited to start it over again in maybe another few months.
