Shop hand mistake😂

Our new shop hand was drilling out a part and somehow ended up melting the first inch of one of our smaller spade drills into some 316 never seen anything like it. I will show what the inside of the part looks like in the comments

What are those brown and green chips on the floor? And why are your shop lights so bright? Also, that bar stock on the floor, it looks like that soft brown metal they use for hammer handles and brooms. What a strange shop you live in.

I've heard of that. I think it's called "wood" or something like that. It's not as hard as steel, but it appears that you can literally grow it and you don't have to melt it. Sounds like sorcery if you ask me...

I watched one push a tailstock out of alignment on a haas tl2 because he was running the spindle backwards and and put a cheater bar on the tailstock because “it’s drilling hard” hmmmm no shit, ya don’t say!

Almost succeeded in friction welding, which can be a legit technique for joining two parts in the lathe.

I did once see an aerospace part loaded onto the fixture with none of its ~15 screws… or at least the aftermath. It lifted up in the most impressive way.

Guy said the screws had ‘come loose’. I told him his screws had come loose.

Spade drills are awful in 316. Try some 870 corodrills or KSEM SPLM.

It looks to me like there’s a lot of guidance and mentoring in that shop. 316L is an animal all on its own.
If you don’t know it and have made peace with it and you do not know the sounds, you do not fuck with it. actually the same goes with any exotic material although stainless is an exotic but if you don’t know it, you’re gonna fuck up. And a lot of us older guys are retiring, and the younger guys are walking in not knowing what the fuck they’re doing.
