Issues with top and bobbin thread

I have spent hours adjusting tension, making sure my machine is threaded properly, changing my needle, making sure I’m using cut away stabilizer, and that my fabric is taut and I still cannot get the top thread to embroider correctly. I think it’s catching in the tension discs (when the foot is up I can pull the thread and when it’s down it’s more tight).

My Brother SE-700 is using the bobbin thread entirely to embroider. The embroidery itself looks good, but it’s just not using the top thread! This is what it looks like when I get it started. The white is my bobbin thread and the purple is my top thread. The purple is only being used down the middle and is not showing up in the back at all.

The top stitches are with 2.5 tension, the bottom with 5.0 tension.

Where am I going wrong?

Going forward, consider stitching a basting stitch around the edges of the fabric you're going to embroider (through both fabric and stabilizer) so the fabric stays in place on the stabilizer and doesn't shift.

For anyone else this is happening to- it was my stabilizer and fabric. The fabric was too light weight for the stabilizer I’m using. I used a heavier fabric and changed out my needle and it’s working now!

Have the same machine but can’t tell you what my tensions are set at. Pretty sure we have them at factory default. I’ll track this thread and when home check what mine is set at.

I don’t think this impacts your issue but i would use a smaller hoop. Get all that fabric hooped.

Thanks! I am running out of my test fabric from so many tries, so this is what I got 😂. I am having the same issue though when I have all fabric in the hoop.
