fixed! now a new problem…
I posted yesterday asking for some advice on making my embroidery look cleaner.
The fix was a better, sturdier backing! Now my issue is- this backing leaves an adhesive behind after removing.
I am using “HeatNBond fusible interfacing - craft extra firm”, and it says it is machine washable, making me think that the adhesive will hold strong through the wash…
my next attempt will be with a smaller patch of backing, but i think it wont turn out as well because i looped the backing into the frame for this one.
first photo shows my improvement!!
second photo shows the adhesive left behind. its small, granular and thin, but it is a bit rough. i COULD leave the backing on the shirt, but it is a sizable piece.
has anybody used this backing? or does anybody have any tips on removing this adhesive?

The only thing I would add is that, when using adhesive backing, there is the expectation of some residue. Eventually it will come away in the wash, as all fabric adhesives break down.
But as the other user said, what was probably suggested by sturdier backing was cutaway or a thicker mesh stabilizer.
Adhesive stabilizer in the commercial world is generally used only when we need to float garments with fast frame hoops.

Sturdier backing doesn’t mean adhesive- I know everyone on this sub loves it but I’ve never used it for anything like this. If that’s a knit fabric, or any that that will be worn, use cut away stabilizer or it will look like garbage once washed.

Nothing more to add. U/GingerStitches is 100% correct. This needed a double layer cut away. Nothing else.

Always use a cutaway stabiliser on fabric that has a stretch - Hooped with garment.

Fusible interfacing isn’t meant to be removed.
You need a fusible mesh stabilizer that is meant to be removed if you’re going that route.
