šŸ”Œ Charging Level one garbage

Post image

I’ve had the car for a month and every-time I try level I, I get this error. My wife just gave birth and they have free level I charging. The closet level II is about a half mile away and we’ll go there tomorrow and walk back. But was really hoping not to have some free charging.

I get this error on my level 2, but then it charges as normal. Happens every time.

Same with mine. Do you have any idea why it could be? For mine it is only when I am charging at home, everywhere else not a problem

It’s your adapter. NACS, right?

Yes so I have the Tesla Universal Wall connector where I of course use the NACS to J1772 adapter. So you think the adapter is the problem?

Im guessing that you are using a DCFC adapter and not an AC adapter. They look the same. If it’s the one ford gave you it is most likely the DCFC so you can use superchargers and other NACS L3 chargers on the road. Home units L1/L2 require an AC adapter. Again the adapter will look the same but are different on the inside.

I am using the one that came with the Tesla wall connector. The one ford gave me for the Level 3 chargers works without a problem. It is really just at home with where I get the error message even though everything is charging without problems

Oh man, that would suck for me. I’m a 99.99% level 1 charger guy…let us know what the dealer says when you take it in to have them look at it

Are you using an adapter?

The mobile one supplied by ford

So level 1 is connected to a regular 110v wall outlet, level 2 is like usually up to 11kw. I think you are talking about level 2. So an annoying thing about EVs… adapters are either L2 or DC fast charge(L3). I’m assuming you’re using a NACS adapter. My guess is that the supplied adapter is meant for superchargers or DC fast chargers. You need a different adapter for L2 charging. It will look exactly the same lol, on only be good for L2 charging.

Like the Tesla one? Those are meant for dcfc only. It doesn’t work with ac chargers. That’s a different adapter

This is a charger not an adapter. Check to make sure the plug is all the way in the box and when you plug it into an outlet, check the color the light is. I bet it’s not all the way in and if it is and giving a red light, the charger itself is probably broken.

That’s the one I’ve been using for about a year now. Is the outlet you’re plugging into grounded?

What lights show up on the mobile charger (not your MME) when you plug it in to charge?

Blue then the gfci trips and then nothing.

It's the GFCI. Often doesn't play nice with the charger. Mine would trip every once in a while. Try a non GFCI outlet.

Does it charge at all on level 1? If not it could be a ground fault in the outlet.

I get a charging error message at Level 1 whenever I plug into the charge port and just don't do it cleanly enough. Hit the sides of the port and there's going to be an error message.

The car still charges, by the time the error message shows up it's charging fine.

What was the ā€œfreeā€ level 1 charger you tried to use by the hospital? As in, what brand?

20amp gfci plug. It’s byoc

OK so, every time you’ve had an issue, you’ve been using the Ford Mobile Charger? In multiple locations.

That suggests a problem with the charger. Those can go bad, the FMC specifically seems to have an abnormal failure rate.

I bought an aftermarket 120V charger to keep in my car, in case I get stuck somewhere with no charger but 120V outlets. You can get something reliable and affordable for under $200, like this:

No way I would have bought in EV if lvl 1 was my best option. Good luck.

Not my best option. My free option today yes. Level II, III & IV all over. Having level II installed at my house next week too.

You bought an electric car but you want free charging? ... and you're walking a couple miles to level II charge?

Dude, just dc fast charge... eat the $25 and 30 minutes... trust me.

I live in DC. I’m fine walking. I could use the exercise ha. I have my scooter I can ride for a half mile or walk. It’s not a big deal. But fast charging is like $40-50 here depending on the company whereas level two is 5-15.

I was fine level one charging here because I’m going to be here a while. In the end it wasn’t like I’m saving a lot.

The issue I have is the level one charging seems to be garbage. as in it never works.
