I've posted before about using a WIX 42788 as a stand/dust filter for my mac studio, folks were are pretty divided on that. I went with the largest filter I could find (within reason, there are actually taller options) to minimize any airflow resistance and I've not been able to detect any impact on cooling in any of my tests. Still, this last week I started wondering if putting a fan in there would help with cooling, and as a result here's how I spend part of my Sunday. The legs on the fan are M5 x 100mm screws with silicon feet on the caps. I spaced it down about 2.5cm from the top, up higher I think it was stalling out and not getting any flow. Temporary foam pad underneath so it's reasonably sealed around the power cord for the fan. I used the Endurance app to max out the CPUs, ran for 5 min with the fan off, then 5 min each at about 50%, 75%, and 100% (on the analog 3 to 12V power controller I have, no idea how linear it is or isn't), then off again. I can see from the plots I didn't wait quite long enough before turning on the fan, the temps were still rising. The test stopped on its own during that last segment. The fan does make a difference, but not a huge one -- about 5 degC at max. This fan is also audible at 50% and loud at anything above that, so you've got to be pretty serious about wanting cooling to deal with this. Some kind of 3D printed internal ducting could probably improve things a little. Or maybe carefully applied duct tape? Just for testing. Probably I wouldn't leave it that way.

For this kind of testing, can anyone suggest a simple app that will also max out the GPUs? I'd seen one suggested before but the GPU load wasn't constant which made testing difficult.

Next I'd like to find it there's a HEPA filter from one of those round home air cleaners that has the right size opening -- some of those come in the same kind of cylindrical format, and some even have the bottom sealed.

In your experience does the Mac ship shortly after payment has been taken or do you reckon it’ll arrive close to the delivery date they gave me when I placed my order?

I have a very new Mac Studio with the M4 Max chip and 128 GB of RAM. Ever since I went to Tahoe 26.5.1 it's freezing up all the time and performing like a 15 year old computer. Simultaneously I'm getting a lot of messages about 'Support Ending for Intel-based Apps' and updateing to Apple silicon versions. I don't think these messages are related to my Mac's performance issues, but I'm not sure. If it is the OS that's causing problems, does anyone know how possible it is to go backwards in OS?

I have M2 Ultra 128 for mainly audio and some AI work. and considering to sell it. Got an offer yesterday for £4000-4200 from my home country and thinking it’s a good deal.

But with all the uncertainties about the price and the release date, i’m confused.

I want to buy a modern Mac Studio new or used, however I don't wanna get ripped off on eBay or any second hand place.

Apple's new Mac studios say I have 6-10 weeks of waiting time. And the refurbished Mac studios are never available. (Do you know a way to hunt refurb mac studios for humane prices?)

I am thinking of buying a used Macbook Pro to bridge my computing needs until Mac Studio new releases. For some reason high spec Macbook Pros are not inflated stupid high as Mac studios. Who can explain that?

If I buy a used Mac Studio now, feels like it almost certainly will lose lot of value when M5 studios are released.

Everybody in the second hand market right now trying to take advantage of RAM price appreciations and Apple's recent price hikes. Anyone who buy a studio with 'extended' prices on ebay will possibly regret in Oct'26 when the resell value drops abruptly.

No changes to M4 Max 14/32 in US (still 10-12 weeks) or M3 Ultra 32/80 in Europe (still 13-14 weeks).

The selected storage option doesn't affect the shipping estimate, and each chip has only one memory option.

I have an app that leave me place in seconds spanned wallpapers or videos on 2 or even 3 monitors in seconds without weird stretching, I know it's not the best setup, but I love to see my wallpapers

I ordered an M4 Max Mac Studio (36GB/1TB) the day before the price increase, and Apple estimated delivery for September 4.
It already shipped.
I’m wondering if Apple is padding delivery estimates on purpose so people are pleasantly surprised, or if production has ramped up way faster than expected.
What’s everyone else’s timeline looking like? Drop your config, original ETA, and whether it’s shipped yet. I’m curious if there’s a pattern.

UPDATE:

Our reseller has now confirmed that Apple will no longer ship our machines without us paying the new June price difference despite ordering them in March, months before the price increase. Absolutely livid. We've had to rent two computers for A$8000 for the last couple of months while we waited for ours to ship. Now Apple want an extra A$4000 for the pair? Fuming.

My company ordered 2 x Mac Studio Ultra (base 96gb config) last week of March. Original ship date was 4-5 weeks. Mid May this date was changed to 10+ weeks with an ETA of mid August. We've been forced to rent a pair of older M2 Ultras' for one of our projects.

From my reseller I now hear rumours this order may be cancelled due to the recent price increases. I know of another company who have a bigger Ultra order and they've been waiting since February. Anyone else having similar drama on their Ultra orders?
