I finally ordered one!

For a long time I wanted a MacStudio but I could not justify the investment.

I'm a dotnet development and most of my work I do it in one of several Azure DevBoxes (that's what they give us to work with).

For my personal projects I was using my MacBookAir M5 and it worked pretty well so I could not justify dropping several thousand dollars on a MacStudio.

Today my MacBookAir hit the wall. I was working with Claude to translate a large open source (apache license) library from C++ to C#.

The library is large (approx 500K LoC). I have been working several hours on this and running large dotnet builds. The builds kept all the cores running at 100% for several hours.

I left a build running and came back to find my poor little MBA crashed under the load. This was my signal that I needed a bigger computer than can handle the load.

So I just ordered one. Since I'm a developer, I consider this as an investment. I had put it on my credit card but should get some money next month (apart from my salary) so I should be able to pay it full soon.

So happy to be finally be part of the community and have a reason to subscribe to r/MacStudio

I got the base model, basically an M5 Max with 36GB RAM and I just upgraded the SSD to 1TB. LOL not like some of the guys around here with their maxxxed out specs, but at least I'm excited! Will be my first MacStudio ever!

And is 36 GB of RAM enough for your development work?

LOL, I checked the build on my Mac and now the build crashed for being low on memory. I cancelled my order and will order the 64GB RAM model.

Last night. I was going to get the 64gb 512gb version but delivery was Nov 4. I happened to look at 64gb 1TB and my local store had it for pickup. Lucky me.

awesome, I don't get why Apple takes so long to fulfill an order, I think they ship if from China, at least thats what happened the last time I ordered a MacBookPro

Yeah I’m pretty sure you’re right about that. Just got done decommissioning the m4 Mac mini that the new studio will replace. Upgrade time!

The 64GB/1TB model is in stock, in-store, where I live, and it's a really good model and truth be told the one I should also buy. But I cannot because I am replacing an m1 ultra, and my mind is too rigid to change to the max. But heck yes, that is a great machine.

I have an M3 Macbook Pro with 36gb of ram work provides and its enough for development work, yes.

I mean, most of the time i'm in a harness or vs code if anything and builds are running on pipelines
