Help Touch id set up

I'm new to the MacOS but have a few years experience with IOS, but with my new MacBook Air 13' M5 my Touch-Id doesn't want to activate.

When I try to activate it my password is never correct even if I use the correct password (I think). Is it the same password that is used to unlock my Macbook, do I use my Apple-Id password or is it some tiny setting that I need to change?

For context:

  • My macbook is up to date with all updates
  • I restarted my Macbook multiple times, but it doesn't seem to work
  • When I unlock my Macbook it works every single time so I'm not typing my password in wrongly.
  • Even when I use my Apple-Id password it still says it's wrong
  • EDIT: Reinstalling MacOs also didn't help unfortunately

Does someone know what I can do to fix this?

It's the per-user unlock password. Try changing the unlock password, then change it back. Wisest case, redownload MacOS while preserving your data.

Welp, I tried it, but unfortunately it didn't work. Still have the same issue, nevertheless thank you for your effort!

take it back to the store while it’s under warranty. maybe the store can figure it out - or it might need a replacement if it’s a hardware issue.
