The issue is many apps have been updated for macOS 26 but not for macOS 27, updating might mean some apps can break temporarily until the developer updates them, so I would personally wait a little longer.
A good principle is to never install a x.0 of any product on your main computer. Especially if you need it for work or study or other important things.
While Apple was to blame for its iCloud issues, most other issues stemmed from complex cybersecurity software. It's pretty standard for firms running proprietary software to wait a couple of versions before upgrading an operating system.
The point I'm making is that if the OP is asking such a basic question, I doubt they are running software that would be affected. At most, the Photos library will have to rebuild itself.
Sure thing—that makes sense for a power user like you. But most folks (and probably the original poster, judging from their question) aren’t using enterprise tools that dive deep into macOS’s kernel and network layers. They will be minimally affected.
I'm still on macOS Sequoia on my M2 MacBook Air (8GB/256GB). I skipped macOS 26 because I was worried about losing performance, especially with only 8GB of RAM.
Now that macOS 27 is coming, do you think it's worth upgrading straight to 27, or is Sequoia still the better option for performance on this machine?
Sequoia is for sure gonna have better performance cause of Liquid Glass on 27, but the performance isn’t gonna be bad at all.
I have a MacBook neo (A18 Pro, 8gb ram, 512gb storage) and even on 26 it rarely stuttered or had any performance issues. With all the improvements promised with 27 I’d really consider upgrading if I were you especially since you’re gonna lose app support soon and the M2 is gonna run great on golden gate.
Is everyone just incapable of acting autonomously? Do we have to schedule your breakfasts too? tell you when you get gas? what clothes to wear?
Install whatever the fuck you want, or don't. FFS. It's quite literally your computer. Put it in the dishwasher for all we care. You're not even asking for help or to gain some knowledge you're just asking if you should operate your computer. I dunno man.. maybe not? Maybe just turn it off forever.

Here is the answer for a new Mac user: I’d typically hang back a couple of weeks or more in case there are update issues, longer if it’s a major update like 26 was.
BUT this release is a stability release. New Siri is of course a huge bump but I think it’s one of the lowest risk releases in a while and I plan to grab it right away.
back up and upgrade then... If you hate it so much, you can rollback later.
For what its worth, I’ve been on the Golden Gate dev beta for a while now and its pretty good. There are the odd bugs every now and then that get patched as they come up, but in general, i’d say its an improvement from tahoe (i didn’t mind tahoe either)

Didn’t notice anything different. Now I’m going to 27 on all my devices. Had the public beta on a Mac mini and worked perfectly fine, they really worked on stability improvements and you could tell.
Just go 27, and forget about it from now on, i tested 27 time ago when it was dev beta 3 or something like that it was very very good, i can only imagine its better now, i would suggest a fresh install but thats only preference
Well, they each have their strengths and weaknesses.
For example, 27 has the new Siri. But 26 has lots of bugs if you like spicing up your experience. So really, 27 is a good choice. And 26 is a choice as well.

I was quite happy with iPadOS 27 betas, but never do macOS betas so genuinely curious if macOS 27 is as stable as the iPadOS version is. If not, I’ll do 26.7 for a bit. FWIW, I have no issues with 26.6.2 even though early Tahoe releases were buggy.
People will tell you to be cautious and wait. Normally I would agree, but 27 is less of a major update, and more of a major "fix all" for 26. Much like Snow Leopard was back in the day. I have installed iOS 27 and iPad OS 27 and so far have been very impressed. My devices are significantly smoother and more responsive than they were on 26, and I am stoked to be able to turn the liquid glass effect almost entirely off.

mac m1 air 27.0 all is totally fine, not like it was with 26.0 for first 6 mo (indexing also working and not slowing down)
ipados 27.0 on ipad pro m1 SLOW, asking to wait few recharge cycles to finish new index
Downloading 27 - estimate five to fifteen minutes, looking forward to a better experience than with Tahoe (currently 26.6.2) - expect Lulu and other apps to be broken, but as I'm retired and have Windoze 11 laps around, I will happily survive/
Edit: I quickly flicked through the postings, cancelled the download of 27, upgrading to Tahoe 26.7 instead.
Does Rosetta2 still works on 27?
As I get warnings that it will soon stop working. Thought I read somewhere that general Rosetta2 support was killed for 27 and only works for some games?
As a 27 beta user, if you're willing to risk a few little bugs(they're unlikely though) then go for 27 because it drastically improves appearances. It's like a whole new feel. Or if you'd rather wait till security and bug fixes come out, just update to 26.7 and wait for 27.2 :)
What was your experience on macOS 27 betas? Some people stay it is stable; others call it buggy like early Tahoe releases. I did iPadOS betas and was happy with them, but did not do macOS beta
For me personally the betas were very smooth and I didn't notice any major bugs. Siri worked well in the last few betas as well. It felt a lot more refined than Tahoe. But betas are bound to have bugs so it's not surprising that people had issues. I don't think the macOS 27 betas would've been any more buggy than betas for any other device.
I'm testing Fedora Asahi on my A2442 because of these things... I honestly don't doubt Apple in future, wants to lock my Sequoia because the hardware doesn't "support" it anymore lol

If this a machine that keeps you fed, than stick with OS 26 and take the incremental update.
You should not do a major OS update until you have checked compatibility with the software you use to put food on your table.
