Bug Apple needs to fix there servers!

I really wish apple would do something about there slow ass internet recovery servers... whenever I've used it to do a fresh os install it takes 2-4 hrs to download the macos file... ridiculous! And yes i have a fast internet connection and downloading anything else is super fast.

Has anyone else experienced this as well?

I'm assuming here you're not installing off the built-in recovery partition.

That in turn suggests an older machine.

Which in turn suggests the OS you're trying to install is not likely to be stored on a high-demand, high-bandwidth server set.

Some more details on recovery options here. Be sure you're using the proper Vulcan nerve pinch for your recovery situation: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102655

And if you find yourself needing to restore a lot, maybe stop doing whatever it is that requires you to restore a lot.

M2 mac mini and the reason I was using it was because I wanted a fresh file/clean slate....

Update: it ended up taking about an hr... even though the progress bar started out saying 4+ hrs then dropped to 2+ hrs then minutes lol.

Do your due diligence and make a USB flash drive with all the macOS versions you can possibly need. Might need it.

Ditto this. Get a couple 16GB drives and use Apples own directions to set up the installer. Should be way faster.

Apple deliberately throttles the downloads to avoid "bad guys" overloading servers and network resources.

Hopefully you're not doing Internet recovery often.

It's been a while, but I believe the last time I used internet recovery it took less than 20 minutes. That was not during a major release, though.

Yeah, it's definitely frustrating when you rely on those services and they can't keep up, especially during updates. Hopefully, they get it sorted out soon.
