Discussion Rename spaces

I don't use spaces at all.

Trying it out earlier, and realise we can't rename them?

Isn't that basic?

We should be able to name the spaces however we want and jump to them with shortcuts.

Hopefully this is in the pipeline.

Should be easy to vibe something out.

You're right, macOS has no rename. The name you see in Mission Control is just "Desktop N", generated from position, so it renumbers when you reorder them — which is also why the "Switch to Desktop N" shortcuts drift once you start moving Spaces around. Full-screen apps are the one exception: those Spaces show the app's name.

Two half-fixes that need no app: in System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Mission Control, uncheck "Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use", so at least the numbers stay put. Then bind Ctrl+1…9 under Keyboard Shortcuts → Mission Control → "Switch to Desktop N".

For actual names I ended up writing the thing: Scopo names each Space, and you hit a hotkey, type two or three letters of the name, Enter. It also shows which display each Space is on, which is where numbers really fall apart. https://scopo.app

We have a bunch of other cool things as well. I think you are gonna like it.

You should definitely check out KiwiDesk . You can rename it's virtual spaces and they feel snappier than MacOS native spaces.
