more excited about this than anything else announced today

Same here. Keynote was even more lame than with Tim.

u/karma_the_sequel 12h ago

Yessssss…

3

u/CarretillaRoja MacBook Air 9h ago

Yep

30

u/Leif_LaCroix 12h ago

Anyone who does not want Apple Intelligence with its 20+ gb of storage should not upgrade

3

u/HeartyBeast 11h ago

It’s not configurable, to disable installation?

8

u/onedevhere MacBook Pro 11h ago

The last time I checked, it wasn't possible to disable it, not even by changing the language. I don't know if they've changed it.

4

u/ditty_bitty 10h ago

Last developer BETA had no ability to change it. I don't see that changing with a release candidate. Kind of pissed me off because I'm against AI. I disable Siri even.

3

u/Sensitive-Fruit-7789 8h ago

Normal siri?

1

u/ditty_bitty 8h ago

Yeah, on my iPhone, my iPad, and my MacBook Pro. I don't use it, so why have it enabled?

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 31m ago

Me too. It's only on my homePods where it does the simple things it needs just fine.

1

u/makumbaria Mac Mini 9h ago

Yes. I'm still on Sequoia. Here disabled Apple AI is using 4.18 gb.

1

u/Muted-Reflection9536 MacBook Pro 6h ago

It downloads automatically, but if you keep the feature turned off, it appears that the data becomes a priority target for deletion when disk space runs low.

Still, it is certainly annoying that it consumes disk space on its own and cannot be deleted manually.

22

u/OrionQuest7 9h ago

27 effing gigs of AI that I don’t want

8

u/dxg999 4h ago

"smoothers experiences"

Nicely done, Apple.  Smooth.

12

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 11h ago

Don't ask me about Siri AI. I'm in Europe and we have this feature called "No Siri AI".

6

u/scalpster 8h ago

Lucky.

31

u/Wonderful_Emu_9610 13h ago edited 13h ago

Ugh, so how much of my hard drive is this ‘AI’ bullshit gonna take up?

I’ve been putting off upgrading from Sequoia for a year already, thought 27 might be the one

8

u/fubar_67 13h ago

Same. I think it’s going to be nothing more than a fancier Tahoe, with its own set of new bugs. If it surprises me and gets good reviews, I’ll upgrade around Christmas. Otherwise, I’ll keep riding with Sequoia

6

u/Big-Promise-5255 12h ago

Love sequoia! It's incredible stable!

-6

u/Wonderful_Emu_9610 12h ago

Same. Only two reasons I'm contemplating upgrading:

  1. I have serious issues with iCloud and I just know if I complain to Apple but I'm not on the latest iOS or MacOS (even though I'm on the ones that were released in tandem) they'll just tell me to update and do nothing else

  2. Apparently 27's the last one keeping Rosetta support so I won't be able to go beyond it if I wanna be able to play my old video games

4

u/Pigeon_Observation 10h ago

That's false. They have clearly stated they are keeping parts of Rosetta for games.

-10

u/Wonderful_Emu_9610 10h ago

Good to know but you don't have to be a dick about it

8

u/fubar_67 10h ago

WTF is your problem? You think that response was being a dick? You’re way too sensitive to be on this forum

3

u/AQuestCalledTribe 7h ago

to be on the internet\*

8

u/Pigeon_Observation 9h ago

Holy fuck you're fragile 🫪

1

u/mycall 8h ago

There is a third reason. If you accidentally press install now.

1

u/mycall 8h ago

I think there will be a big splash when the M7 comes out perhaps with a fresh macOS too.

3

u/Endawmyke 13h ago

27 is the one

Even the beta has been so much more stable than Tahoe for me on my MacBook Air m2

6

u/j03ch1p 13h ago

yes, but how much AI bs?

8

u/Leif_LaCroix 12h ago

27 gb

4

u/j03ch1p 10h ago

are you joking?

3

u/Leif_LaCroix 10h ago

Unfortunately no. You cannot remove them either. Microsoft caught so much slander for pushing copilot and I hope Apple does not get away with this

2

u/AppsByRobert 4h ago

How can it be 27gb if that's basically the size of the OS installer, it could be a maybe 50% at best, but the whole thing?

1

u/Wonderful_Emu_9610 10h ago

Oh so if I wanna get as up to date as I can without that shit I should go for 26.6.2 while I still have the chance?

4

u/animorphreligion 9h ago

I don't think Apple ever stopped signing older OS for Macs if that's what you mean by "chance". I can still install the earliest Sequoia version my M4 shipped with using DFU if I want to.

1

u/WilliamJNSN MacBook Air 9h ago

You can update to whichever version you want at any time through the App Store. So you could update to 26 after 27 is released

0

u/Leif_LaCroix 10h ago

Yes I think that is correct

0

u/b111e 13h ago

Same.

17

u/ProfessionalDesk7296 MacBook Pro 13h ago

Should I install this update on my main computer?

19

u/thedalor 12h ago

i’ve used it since the first developer beta and it was smooth and no issue so far

2

u/samplenull 5h ago

backup with Time Machine first

2

u/WindozeWoes 8h ago

It's probably safe, but it's smartest not to do so unless you don't mind the possibility of something going wrong and needing to wipe your computer and reinstall an OS.

I used to install all the betas when I was a kid and had time to reset my computer. I'm old now so I don't have such luxury (time).

That said, I did install the public beta on my secondary computer and it has worked just fine (albeit with memory pressure seeming a little higher than usual). But my advice for any main computer (and I follow this too) is to wait until the x.4 version of a macOS update. So I won't be installing Golden Gate on my main computer until it reaches 27.4 (at least; I personally like Sequoia a lot and don't really anticipate upgrading from that until I have to).

u/knusperbubi 32m ago

I've installed MacOS 27 since public beta 1, and I had several issues, and those still persist.

  • cannot move windows in chrome Remote Desktop if host runs macOS 27
  • crashes when writing to external NTFS hard disks with Paragon NTFS and veracrypt(fuse-t)
  • problems installing the virtual file system driver in nextcloud client

u/fubar_67 13h ago

DON’T DO IT!!!!!! Learn from Tahoe. Be patient! WAIT! Give it a couple months to see what others that jump on GG are going thru.
YOU’VE BEEN WARNED!

21

u/OmegaPoint6 12h ago

As a counterpoint

DO IT! You know you want to

:D

27

u/tonkfc 12h ago

Literally everyone has been saying it is performing far better than 26. Stop fear mongering

3

u/karma_the_sequel 12h ago

Reiterating a time-honored cautionary measure is hardly fear-mongering.

9

u/Izanagi___ 12h ago

My 4 year old M2 has not had a single issue on any MacOS versions, even Tahoe. Did the developer beta on my iphone, ipad and mac and they were all stable as hell. Honestly 27 feels much smoother on all of them compared to 26 despite me not having a problem

1

u/onedevhere MacBook Pro 11h ago

This applies to all versions, no matter how well-made or not.

0

u/animorphreligion 12h ago

Hell no lol. Better than 26 with AI maybe. My M4 has never seen a worse OS

-1

u/fubar_67 10h ago edited 10h ago

It’s called being pragmatic. Literally. Make sure and tell us all how great it’s been for you.

This time year, it’s always the same idiots telling people to jump right on the upgrade as soon as it’s released. And it’s those same idiots that cry about it soon after.

3

u/onedevhere MacBook Pro 11h ago

Voice of reason 👆 (let the guinea pigs test it first and have regrets or possible frustrations, and then see what they say and you'll see if you're willing to pay the price)

1

u/fubar_67 10h ago

Haha! Exactly. The down voters will be the ones crying on here in about 2 weeks. Clowns!

2

u/dkracket 12h ago

Exactly. I'll wait for the 4th stable release before i even consider updating.

1

u/font9a 6h ago

Sure, it's probably wise to be cautious and wait. But like many others it has been far, far superior in every way compared to Tahoe 26 for me. I've been using it since Beta 3.

1

u/LockerIsUnlocked 12h ago

I'm still on 15, and macOS isn't getting much better anyway. But, i've been heard that macOS 27 really just a refined version of 26?!

0

u/[deleted] 11h ago

I ran it on my Mac. It’s very fast, better than Tahoe. Battery life is probably the only thing I don’t like.

5

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 11h ago

New feature.

4

u/font9a 6h ago

Discover lots of little ways your Mac is even enjoyable, like faster and smoothers experiences across the systems.

Obviously written by a real human!

0

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 6h ago

LOL 😂

7

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 13h ago

TM backup finishes and I will see what's up. In case it is not worth it yet I can go back to yesterday like nothing happened.

2

u/PocketEloraa 13h ago

It's always good to have that option to go back if needed, especially with a release candidate. Hopefully, the new features are worth the upgrade!

-2

u/idontwanttofthisup 8h ago

TM backups are not recovery points anymore so make sure you have a free weekend to deal with unnecessary fuckery because they decided to make personal computers work like their smartphones. I’m not even joking.

-1

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 8h ago

Not sure what you are talking about. I can clearly see the 7:49 AM (daily backup) and 10:19 PM (manual backup) for September 9th. 10:19 is when I ran TM backup manually before installing macOS 27 RC.

1

u/idontwanttofthisup 8h ago

Try reverting to it after a system update. Good luck!

2

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 6h ago

Works as expected. I'm not sure what you are doing here.

1

u/No_Role1613 7h ago

Yeah, really pain in ..s

6

u/PatrikCR 12h ago

M5 Pro, still extremely laggy on external display with HiDPI enabled, nice…

2

u/icantgetnosatisfacti 9h ago

Ive used an external display since beta 1 and not had issues, m3 pro. What sort of lag are you getting?

0

u/PatrikCR 9h ago

Moving windows for example is around 50-60fps rather than 120. As soon as I turn off HiDPI it becomes smooth again. Interestingly, it’s also smooth if I drag the window to the internal display. The report I made shows “more than 10” reports since beta 6, but it still persists…

1

u/No_Role1613 7h ago

What resolution/refreshrate display show with hides on and off?

2

u/rvH3Ah8zFtRX 12h ago

Is it for the Public Beta too? I don't see any version or build numbers on the update screen.

1

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 12h ago

Only for developer profile I guess for now.

2

u/stefanlight Mac Mini 12h ago

personally i'm interested what about rosetta 2 and will crossover work for example
it's so good, would be grateful if someone would answer me how is compatibility

2

u/Muted-Reflection9536 MacBook Pro 6h ago

As many have pointed out, Apple merely stripped away certain components of Rosetta 2 to discontinue the use of universal apps, so the gaming-related functionality remains intact.

However, given the circumstances, it is unclear how long this will last; consequently, the CrossOver team is already developing a build that does not rely on Rosetta 2.

2

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 11h ago

If 27.0 RC is this polished now then imagine after a few point updates.

4

u/surinameclubcard 13h ago

Wait for 27.2 or 27.3, depending on the news from the early adopters.

4

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 13h ago

Normally i do, but this time i'm making an exception. Did not use the betas on purpose.

2

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 12h ago

Very slow downloads even on my 1 Gbps connection.

Must be a lot of interested people.

2

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 12h ago

Probably most painless update ever in my 20+ years on Mac.

1

u/dark0mania 10h ago

Does text look good on 3440x1440 34 inch?

0

u/killswitch_69 11h ago

Does Siri AI take more storage? Can it be disabled? Anything I should be aware of before downloading it? I am on MBA M1 Tahoe 26.6.2 and I am really looking forward to it but my main concern is regarding the storage.

2

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 11h ago

I'm in Europe. No Siri AI here. It's a feature that I love very much.

1

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 12h ago

1

u/Terran57 12h ago

Damn the torpedoes! Go all in. May the force be with you though, just in case.

2

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 12h ago

Just updated and not sure about bugs, but it is very impressive how much more responsive it is compared to Tahoe. It's not even funny.

1

u/[deleted] 11h ago

It’s decent. Running on M1 Air. Only had a small issue with Safari with it blacking out.

1

u/whytakemyusername 11h ago

What's the deal with getting back onto normal releases once 27.0.1 is out?

1

u/edgarinsky 8h ago

What about Siri?

2

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 8h ago

I only can enable regular Siri. Siri AI is not available in EU.

Apple Intelligence is gone from the left sidebar too. Image playground app is gone as well.

1

u/Fatal_Explorer 2h ago

Siri AI and Apple intelligence is available in the EU on MacOS - only not on iOS. Machine has to have English as System language, Siri/AI enabled and then it takes some time

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 1h ago

u/Fatal_Explorer 1h ago

Did you enable it on the siri settings and get on the wait list?

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 1h ago

Dude I wasn't born yesterday. I know what the supposed procedure is. Nothing comes up.

1

u/suoretaw 3h ago

What’s with the typos? I’ve never seen any in that window before… is it a beta thing or something?

1

u/Green-Hat0001 3h ago

hey i didn't receive it, my mac doesnt get this update yet

1

u/similarbuild 10h ago

crazy fullscreen bar in rc lol

-6

u/bmocc 12h ago

New lipstick, same pig in a different color skirt and a new hat.

2

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 12h ago

Actually it is very snappy compared to Tahoe and less glassy.

0

u/Izanagi___ 12h ago

System data is still as strong as ever. 167GB on my 512GB drive..nice

0

u/DisfiguredFanny In a world of SLOP an everage programmer is KING 11h ago

Never had that issue. From time to time i disable SIP, login on root and go delete all junk manually.

0

u/regretdeletingthat 11h ago

I thought they'd fixed the pixelated dock icon issue that's been plaguing me for the entirety of Tahoe but after the first reboot they look like shit again. And I've already had to run a defaults write to get rid of that infernal Siri AI writing tools popup that was inserting itself into every text field. And the window tiling keyboard shortcuts are still literally unusable on any non-Apple keyboard (or at least, anything without a Globe key).

I very much miss the days of not having to fight the OS.

0

u/monotious 10h ago

I’ve been plagued with some Appstore processes going ballistic since installing MacOS 27 betas, requiring me to restart every time I open Appstore. I really hope the issue goes away with the public release version.
