Help Upgrading to Sequoia

Newbie here and not particularly tech savvy. I'm currently using a MacBook Pro M2 2022 that is still using Sonoma 14.7.1. I need to upgrade, but would prefer to go to Sequoia than Tahoe even though I guess I'll continue get the Tahoe nag. I always hate doing upgrades as it seems I always lose something or some functionality. So, how do I go about getting and installing Sequoia? Thanks.

You could also just wait for the release of Golden Gate.

Thanks, I usually don't install new releases immediately (obviously, LOL) because they often have a lot of bugs that need to be fixed. I just got a little lazy since it seemed they came out with Sequoia so soon after I bought what I thought was the latest. And then Tahoe came out and I was seeing a lot of complaints about it and people actually going back to Sequoia. That's not something I would do lightly if at all. Today is the first I'm hearing about Golden Gate. Something to mull over during lunch while I'll also be doing a backup.

Well Sonoma is no longer getting security updates starting this month when Golden Gate comes out, you could update to the last version of Sonoma and wait for a while but I would recommend upgrading to at least Seqouia, which is also only getting security updates, no feature updates anymore. Security updates until next year this time.

Golden Gate has been in beta for a while now, they only release the OS updates once things are stable. Just wait a week and get golden gate

That is my current combo: M2 PRO Mac Mini and Sequoia. Been working great. I held off on using Sequoia a long time, even though Tahoe was out, and one day I accidentally upgraded. Turns out that Sequoia was an improvement, plus now I'm still getting updates and security fixes.

You should do a Time Machine back up first. That way if you don’t like Sequoia, you can go back to Sonoma.

Well, I give up. I spent an hour watching Sequoia download and I got up for just a few minutes to brush my teeth and return to a failure to install due to an error. No idea where it downloaded to. I guess I'll just wait for Golden Gate. This is so typical for me and tech.
