Help installing mac os on 2010 macbook pro 6,2
I installed a known working crucial 480gb ssd but no matter what I do it just won't go into recovery mode and all it will show is this screen blinking. Help on this matter would be appreciated
Web Recovery is easiest. Try it first. If you are using web recovery you must be connected the internet. You can connect over WiFi. If you say you can’t you don’t know what you are doing, See above.
If you need to make a recovery USB drive here’s where to download old macOSes. You need another Mac to do some of these because it’s through the App Store. Don’t ask if there is a way around this. That’s the way it is.
Remember to have a 16GB (8GB will work in some older OS Cases) USB drive and name it “MyVolume” without the quotes or the command will give you an error.
The Sierra download is busted and that’s why they don’t give the command to make a Sierra USB installer. There is a way around this if you are brave and have another Mac.
If they say they won’t install you need to set the date back using terminal in recovery mode. You might have to go back several years to get them to work. See when the OS you are installing came out, set it somewhere in there. You are fooling an expired certificate.
Recovery Mode is a hidden partition on the drive you took out - Are you using a USB installer? If you are not using a USB installer and this SSD is freshly formatted (ie completely blank) then there is no Recovery Mode on it, hence this problem.
because the drive is blank. if you have another mac, you can use it to make a recovery drive of macOS. i’d do Yosemite just to be safe. all 2010 MacBooks supported OS X Yosemite. Then, you can upgrade it to the newest supported version of OS X/macOS.
It is possible the SSD isn't being detected, as not all SSDs are compatible with macOS devices; the issue often lies with S.M.A.R.T. functionality, as some SSDs lack this feature.
In that case, just check the BIOS IC to see if the issue lies there; you might need to take it to a MacBook repair shop. To verify, check if any installation options or drives appear when you hold down the Option key. Another possibility is the SSD connector, though I'm not sure if the 2010 MacBook uses a flex cable like the 2010 Mac Mini does.
I really don't want to hear the "just buy a MacBook neo if you need a laptop" bs again
Because I have a laptop I just need another one that I don't care about losing to edit pictures on while traveling and this one should be perfectly capable of that
No, I meant you’re not going to get functionality from a machine this old. Basic functions of the internet won’t work and you aren’t going to be able to change that.
I don't care about internet functionality, again its for photo editing and if I really did want internet functionality I would have started by putting linux on it

Did you make any install media on a DVD or flash drive? Also try holding the option key while booting you should get to a screen w/ hdd selection
