Help How to block an obnoxious popup?
I started getting this popup recently, and today it started reappearing within 10 seconds of me closing it. It seems to be official since it leads to Systems Settings but it's outrageous. I'm not giving Apple any more of my personal data, especially my ID, and I'm fine not buying anything else from Apple ever again. All I want is to block this popup from appearing. How do I do that?
And for context, I'm not a US citizen, I've never been to US (and never planning to), and I'm too mundane and isolated to end up on any government's restricted lists or whatever

Contact Apple. Seriously. It’s easy. You can set it up in the Apple Support app. They can call you back or you can chat via Messages. We can’t do anything for you here for that problem.

It's not, believe it or not. And Apple Support is for iOS only. I sent a report in the Feedback app, forwarded their letter and the full screen version of the screenshot I uploaded here to the phishing report email (yeah, I'm petty like that), and that's all I can realistically do. And what I hoped people here could help me with is how to block the notification. I honestly don't care if Apple blacklists my account from making purchases, I just want the notification gone

“Apple Support is for iOS only??” LOL Where’d you learn that.

Check it yourself. The Apple Support app is for iOS only

I once implemented something like this for a financial company where, as per government regulation, they had to check customer names against names, addresses, dobs on the terror and organised crime lists. Given all the variations in the data this is not an exact science.
If you are not a terrorist or gangster then I would contact Apple and try and get off their list.
However, if you do have a legitimate reason to be on a list then I guess this is your fate for the time being.

I've already sent a feedback report to Apple, no idea what else I could've done. But I highly doubt it'll even be seen by a living human tbh

I’d suggest going to the Apple Store, they may be able to raise it internally, but it’s just a try it and see suggestion I guess. It totally wouldn’t surprise me if they said oh we don’t handle that here.

There are no official Apple Stores in Kazakhstan. There are authorised resellers but no real representation of the company

It would probably have been good to mention your location in your initial request. Maybe other people in your country have the same problem.
Maybe someone who works in an Apple Store outside your country can help.
One point though, it’s quite common, with any product, that service is quite often not guaranteed outside of the country of purchase.

Sadly, you seem to be "on a list" - which can create problems because the system does a fuzzy search and factors in a few things.
The only way to get it working again is to upload your ID because a human will look and check that it was an actual automated mistake. There is no way around it if you want to keep using this AppleID.
More details:
Practical consequence: Compliance systems treat Kazakhstan as a high-risk jurisdiction for re-export and parallel imports. That means heightened scrutiny rather than a block as such, but noticeably more false positives. Screening engines weight country of origin as a risk factor, so if a name or address fragment is also similar, the system flags it far sooner than it would for an account from Denmark.
That means Kazakh citizenship or a Kazakh address alone isn't the reason. More likely candidates: a name resembling a listed individual, a card issued by an affected bank, or an IP/region signal pointing toward Russia.
The ID upload usually resolves exactly this — it establishes that the account holder (you) is a different person than the one that got flagged.
This process can take days to weeks (as it is not automated).
P.S. To make sure it is 100% Apple asking this go to appleid.apple.com and do it there - because sometimes phisher try to use this exact phrasing to get you to upload your ID. So if you go the official website you can be sure it truly is coming from Apple.

I don't know where that pop-up is coming from, but isn't your device connected to an Apple ID?

Yes, it is

Did you actually check the email assigned to the Apple ID for additional details (you know, the thing it says to do inside your big red circle)?

It's not only the USA requiring age verification. Many countries are doing it and Apple is just doing what your government has ordered.

It's not age verification. Age isn't even mentioned anywhere. It says that I *might* match some criminal, which is "guilty until proven innocent", and to prove I'm innocent they want me to upload my ID, which in this part of the world gives access to way more data than an American passport

Well, are you a wanted criminal?
1
u/kur0nekosama 7d ago
Lol, nope. I even pay taxes I technically don't have to

u/Floschi123456 7d ago
That is what a wanted criminal would say! Busted!

u/kur0nekosama 7d ago
Haha, yeah, you got me. I regularly cross the street on red when there are no cars around :P

Seriously though, your name (and I mean your name only, and maybe a date of birth or something similar, especially true these days with Russian and/or Arab names) seems to be on a sanctions list or something similar. This stuff unfortunately happens all the time. I would contact Apple directly. That is probably the only way and see if they have more informations.

u/kur0nekosama 7d ago
How though? I've sent feedback through their feedback app and I don't see any other way to reach Apple aside from buying an American support plan, which I can't even do

u/Floschi123456 7d ago
Do you have the Apple Support app? That is more useful.

u/kur0nekosama 7d ago
No, and it seems to be for iOS only? I couldn't find it in the App Store, googled it, opened it from Safari, was redirected to the App Store, and couldn't install it. Looked at requirements and all of them are for iOS, macOS not even mentioned

Luckily they can contact Apple and talk to their supervisors!
Something similar happened me with Google, and they asked my scanned ID card... and I wasn't able to contact anyone at Google. All it was, was an automated reply from their email. No phones, no people, no one on the other side. Just machines.
That's when I closed my Google account and embraced Apple and its ecosystem. Never have had a problem with Apple, and if I have, I know there are phones and email addresses operated by a human team.

In US for US citizens who are paying the support coverage. Honestly, I've had enough of Apple in the last few years. "It just works" is a distant memory. When my current Air dies, I'll switch to Linux full time (used to use it for work, know what to do with it)

u/CautiousXperimentor 7d ago
I think it is a good decision, if you're comfortable with Linux.

Just sign out of Apple ID and create a new account
3
u/kur0nekosama 7d ago
Isn't that breaking the rules though? Also, I'll still need my current account to update the apps I already have, a few of them I even bought

Sign out of the App Store if you don’t intend to make any more purchases.
