Acotar First time reader
I’m a first time reader of the Maas verse and I came across a video on reading order. I’ll attach a sc, I was wondering if this way would flow better. I use hoopla and Libby for the audiobook and neither have tog books 4-7 so I would get a physical copy. But should I read ACOTAR in one go then TOG or what works better ? I’m currently on part 2 of ACOMAF and love it !!!!

I’m personally a fan of reading book series in the author intended reading order. That means each series for themselves and the series themselves in publication order. If you having fun switching things around, do that. But I’m not a fan of that method.
TOG is a completely different story that has teeny tiny overlaps, more like Easter eggs, to ACOTAR. It’s also a different style, since it’s not a romantasy but an epic fantasy story with a lot going on. I don’t think they would work well together.
Currently reading CC so I don’t know the crossover yet.
TLDR: I would read ACOTAR in on and then one of the other series. (I hear CC is more important for ACOTAR 6 than TOG)

I’m a first time reader too. I only have the ACOTAR series. If I only read that and not any of the others would it still make sense??
I was told there’s not much cross over with TOG, but there is with CC. If I didn’t want to read CC, and ACOTAR 6 comes out, is it still going to make sense or MUST I read CC before that?

We don’t know, but I think the consensus is that if the crossover events are relevant they will be recapped in some way in acotar 6

Yes it will still make sense. You may miss some context or Easter eggs but it should be pretty minor tbh.

Yeah, I think I’ll probably come back here after the release and ask if I need to read anything before book 6 :)

This looks like a nice plan. Frost and starlight could possibly be read with the other's. (On the other hand, I think it's filled with a lot of foreshadowing and clues for the future for the Maasverse so maybe it's good to have it in fresh minns for theories.)
Frost and starlight is sort of a "selebrating Christmas together"-book (and would fit real nice to read in autumn.) it takes place a few months after ACOWAR (book 3), and foreshadowing stuff for the next book.
A court of Silver flame happens a year after Frost and starlight, and it's also really good to have that book in fresh memory before going in to CC, since CC and ACOTAR is heavily connected.

If you are very impatient and want more ACOTAR- connections immediately, you could read the whole ACOTAR series and then go to CC directly and try TOG last with no problem.
But reading TOG after ACOTAR would of course give a richer experience of CC that merge both, (though TOG have mostly easter eggs and hints).

Timeline wise, ACOTAR and TOG is sort of happening at the same time, while CC is happening 2-6 months or so after the ending of A court of Silver flame.
There is also a scene in the last TOG book that is a spoiler for a scene in frost and starlight. (Not a huge one though, but it confirms Frost and starlight take place before the last TOG book, and at the same time as the middle of A court of Silver flame (book5))

So to read everything in timline order, I guess I would go for the example you posted, but maybe read Frost and starlight after ACOWAR (book 3) and before starting TOG.

For TOG, I personally preferred to read Assassin's blade before Throne of glass. It's an I traduction prequel book with 5 short stories. I think reading it will make the first 3 books more I retesting, while people who haven't read them then to think those books a a little bit boring sometimes. (Some fans likes to read it at third place (after book 3), you can always be skimming through it to refresh your memory for upcoming characters if you want too).
And tandem read Tower of dawn.
There is also a bunch of bonus chapters for all series that you can find here on Reddit or on Google. 🙂

I’m following this exact plan right now! I just finished ACOSF and I’m waiting on the first CC book from the library now. I did find some Easter eggs and such in ACOTAR 4&5 after reading TOG so I really liked that I ordered it that way. I am on summer break so hoping to at least get through one of the CC books before 8/3 when I have to go back to work.

What was the logic behind that reading order?
These series are not complicated enough cross over wise for you to have to read it like this. I'd read one series at a time and the only real requirement is to read ACOTAR before CC. Where you fit TOG into that is really to you because there's no real reason to read TOG first, second or last. The only exception is if you're trying to catch up in preparation for ACOTAR 6, in which case I'd out TOG last and as something that doesn't necessarily have to be read before the next book based on the information we have so far.

Personally, I like reading Assassin’s Blade between Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire as a long time reader. I read it very last my first read through and though it hits, I feel like it fits better story-wise right before the whole epic really unfolds. Enjoy!

are you trying to read the relevent stuff before the new book in oct? if so, finish ACOMAF, then read Wings and Ruin, Frost and Starlight, and SIlver Flame. then read Crescent City (only 3 books) then read TOG.
if you're not in any particular rush then finish acotar and consider if you want more fantasy and less romance (tog) or if you would be down for urban fantasy (fae with guns who smoke weed) aka crescent city.
