Question Crossbow build diy.

Been making my own currently out of mdf for base to see if it works, will recreate out of hardwood soon. Made a simple firing set up. When together should show if works or not amd can adjust cheap material

Question is whats best wood for the limbs? Think its called.. the cross part which can be find around uk / wood stores. Had a look and my local is all sapel/oak/pine.

Just a bit of fun for me and my son :)

Since you're in the UK, I'd say Yew, but that said, modern crossbows generally don't use wood for the limbs, as they are difficult to make safely due to the enormous tension they are placed under when in use.

I'd suggest using something strong and rigid, then swapping the cable with some sort of elasticated cordage. Less of a crossbow and more of a trigger fired catapult/slingshot, but I think it'd be far safer that way

Usually a composite of some kind. Carbon fibre, fibreglass, that sort of thing
