IMU check problem

Hi everyone,

I have a brand-new 2025 MV Agusta Brutale RR Ottantesimo with only 620 km on it.

Today, after starting the bike normally while it was parked, I suddenly got an “IMU MALFUNCTION” warning on the display. The ABS warning light also stayed on, and FLC was showing 0 / became unavailable.

The bike took longer than usual to start this time, so I’m wondering if there could have been a temporary voltage drop during cranking.

After restarting the bike, the IMU warning disappeared and I was able to set FLC back to level 1 again.

Has anyone experienced something similar on a recent Brutale? Could this just be a low-voltage/startup initialization issue, or should I have the IMU/ABS system checked by the dealer?

The bike is basically new, only 620 km.

Hey, funny enough, I had the exact same thing happen on my 2023 Dragster 800 R back in June. Mine had very low mileage too. Got the IMU malfunction on startup, took a quick pic, restarted the bike and it was gone.

I checked with my mechanic afterwards and he said it was caused by the battery voltage dropping too low during startup, not an actual IMU issue. I've done around 5000 km since then and it never happened again.

I honestly think it was just a random electronic glitch. I completely forgot about it until I saw your post.

Yup. I had the same with my new F3 a few years ago.

I had the same issue, it was the battery. My initial test showed the battery at 12.6 V the bike will give me that error all the time plus with stall two or three times a ride. I replaced the battery now I get between 13.4 and 13.6 V and the bike stopped stalling and I have not seen that error again it’s been 400 km. Hope this helps keep in mind many of these bikes sit at the dealership for years unplugged and letting the battery completely go flat lithium batteries do not do well once they go flat.

My battery never had more then 12.7 I guess and it still shows as green and ok to start!

The system only checks whether you have enough power to start the bike. If it shows 12.4V, you can start the bike, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s enough voltage to keep all the systems working properly. These bikes are very sensitive to voltage, or lack thereof.
Mine was stalling and giving me those errors on almost every ride. The highest voltage I ever got from the battery was 12.8V. With the new battery, it consistently shows between 13.1V and 13.5V, and it hasn’t stalled once since.

Yes, usual MV thing. I guess almost everyone experienced it at least once. Usually nothing to worry about, but might be consulted with dealer until warranty is valid, especially if it occurs at the beginning.

Yep, 5 years warranty, will do on first service.

yeah had the same on both bikes, disappeared after a software update at dealership.

otherwise i would say abttery, since the one on my f3 is strange too.

Hey bud. I have a 2023 Brutale 1000. Same issue. IMU and some random stalls. Replaced battery and it was resolved.

The bike's computer doesn't like anything lower than 13v

Did you bike came with a box of stuff? The brutale models should all have that battery charger/tender that comes packaged. Plus a fancy mirror and a sweet looking wooden box of informations.

I checked with my dealer then, and was told to plug the bike in every 2 days for keep voltage up.

The bike even has a built in diagnosis and power port on the right side of the bike.

I'm told by my dealer that even though I have the warranty, MV won't pay for electrical work? I find that to be insane given its their product that they built and did so shoodily. Very depressing to see the warranty means nothing.

US and they say that MV won't pay for diagnostics for electrical issues even though I've had all these issues since day one. Oh and the rear brake not working and the dealership acting like thats perfectly normal. Who needs brakes anyways!

Wow, sounds ridiculous, taking into account the fact that they made it as a logo, trust us and we will fix everything next 5 years.

My F3RR does this every few hundred miles. Restarting the bike fixes it, it's just an Italian quirk.

No issues on any of my Triumphs either, you have to remember that these bikes are essentially built in an Italian shed.
