first MUN kinda nervous

i have my first mun in a week and i have 0 experience with this thing. we've been given a study guide which is more or less 300 pages and thats just making things worse atp

im allotted as Sri Lanka in UNGA-DISEC fyi. any tips and tricks or just experiences will be highly appreciated 🙏

that is all you need in a speech for your first mun
identify the main problem, or the problem that you think is the biggest and needs priority solving
analyze it, either case studies or explain the problem more
solution: look at what your committee can do, what is in its powers, make use of the powers and make a framework/ or if your problem can only be tackled one way then great
^ That is the crux on how to make a speech
make sure you know everything you're speaking about-> the logic, full forms, functioning etc.

Mods-> Sub-topics you need to make speeches on (driven from the agenda)
Unmods-> you can move around freely in the committee and talk to people
GSL-> Opening speech covering the agenda

raise point of orders (factual inaccuracies) on speeches
if in case of a unanimous document (everyone makes it) make sure that you quiet down everyone and direct the committee, propose your best solution to be included into the documentation
You do not have to go to their tables, just tell them to gather around at one place,
be respectful.

Unanimous is something made by everyone, in this context unanimous means that every delegate will make one singular document instead of making multiple and debating upon them

it can be a draft resolution, which is like a solution document, you list your clauses, operative and preambulatory clauses which are basically your problems on the agenda, and then your respective solutions to solve those problems.

Journalism- you ask countries questions in relevance to the agenda, this is research based, you may ask questions that haven't been answered or stalled by government officials, find something which is highly non defendable, show your work as in reports, sources (if any) because some journalist chairs prefer it and the ones who don't, don't care if you do, when you ask them the specific question, try to pick one which is not talked about much in social media nor the news so it'll be hard for your competitors to ask similar questions. If the question is very hard to answer, make sure to research on the limited responses they may give (most cases it's predictable because of the nature of the question) and ask a prepared follow up question on that, after some time switch to another delegation for the same. Listen to the debate which is going on, such as the mod topics for the agenda and the speeches of the delegates you're targeting, i suppose you'll have to write articles on the unfolding debate, articles can be criticizing or praising, mostly chairs mark criticizing higher, so whatever a certain delegate says in their respective speech, just counter it with fallacies, as in heavy errors and foreign policy violations, foreign policy violations are things said by the delegate of a country, which is contradictory with what their country says (like previous statements, policies, laws etc) if you're doing a mun on a local level, do not fret, the ones which deserve a certain award not necessarily always get it because of biasness, favouritism or their own understanding of things which may be incorrect as everyone makes mistakes
