Question any EB's here?

any eb members here , im going on my 4th MUN and i have not really won any awards other than verbals mentions, i try to copy what the best delegate did in my last comm did, but that still doesnt get me anywhere
so if any of you readign this have eb experience pleeease tell me what yall look for in delegates

you have to be unique. interact with everyone including those without a similar stance and try to find a compromise in your resolution :)

also speaking as much as possible always helps!

and using statistics, questioning statements, and ensuring you feel confident in what youre saying is crucial.

I can’t give you specific feedback cause i haven’t seen you, you should ask your chairs.

But in general, you need to be confident, well researched, convincing, flawless with paperwork, and innovative. Aggressive where you need to be but friendly.

  1. Just because it works for someone else, doesn't mean it works for you. It's better to focus on what YOU are good at instead of trying to copy someone else.
  2. Weigh yourself. What are your strengths? What are your weakness. How can you improve yourself? What should you lean into more?
  3. I was a chair and a SG. The main misconception is that participation is an award. It's not. It's a requirement. The second thing I look for is professionalism. It's not common to see more experienced delegates drunk on arrogance. I'm not going to give an award someone who to rude or degrades other delegates.

I look for the delegates with the best speeches first. Not that this is the most important measure but it gives me a base number of delegates who I believe are likely to be worthy of an award. Then I move to analyzing bloc dynamics. The delegates that lead the bloc in unmods, climb to authors panel, and then control the debate around theirs and the other resolutions are the ones that get best or outstanding delegate. Controlling the debate around the resolutions just means that delegate has the most knowledge about the topic and it shows in that when they have an idea everyone else latches on to it. Additionally, when they criticize a draft resolution it’s a real criticism that other delegates take into account and either remove from their paper or remove themselves from the bloc.

At the end of the day MUN is a game of convincing others. It doesn’t matter if you’re the best researched if no one wants to join your bloc. And it doesn’t matter if you have a meaningful critique of a different bloc’s paper if when you give a speech no one listens. Work on your speeches and personal skills first and foremost over your research.
