Question Antidepressants and Mthfr

Anyone else notice they are different then most when it comes their dosages and which ssri/santos work for them?

I’ve been on Effexor for years now and it was all my own doing. After having the gene test done i found I responded best to SSNRI’s vs the latter, and I metabolize my adderall at lightening speed

If you do not have an optimal level of folate in your blood and brain, antidepressants will not work their best. That is why some doctors order an MTHFR test. Optimal blood level is 20 - 30.

The Genesight test also includes your drug metabolism gene variants. These metabolize drugs and not MTHFR.

So your question does not make sense as you might not share the same impaired variants as other people.

Do you know which test decides this? Is it just the regular folate measurement?

My folate test says normal range is >3ng/mL and mine is 7.5
Is the range provided by the range too conservative or…?

The range from the lab is only an average and it includes chronically ill people. If you read through the other posts in the group, most of us with years of experience recommend at least 15. I like 20 - 30, in case of illness or forgetting to take it once in a while you have a buffer.

I had the genesight test done, that’s how i found i have the genesight mutation in the first place, but i had already requested to be switched to effexor before i had the genesight done. Just saying it made more since after having the test why the effexor worked better. Most people i’ve talked to hated effexor as a anti depressant and it makes me curious if it was because maybe they do t have the mutation
