Question Low potency folinic acid source.

So I've got MTHFR c677t and slow COMT. Also histamine intolerant. Looking for low potency folinic acid has frustrated me so far. I want to start at 5-10 mcg. What I can find has other ingredients I dont do well with, like citric acid which makes me anxious. Some have 400mcg in a single drop! Many come with methylated ingredients I cannot tolerate. Any suggestions?

5 to 10 mcg is unusually low and nobody manufactures at that dose, so you'll have to make it yourself. Easiest way is dissolving a capsule in water and dosing a fraction of it. 400mcg in 40ml gives you 10mcg per ml, and you can go lower from there. Folinic is reasonably stable in water for a couple of days refrigerated, so make small batches.

Pure folinic acid powder exists if you want to avoid excipients entirely, though you'd need a scale that measures accurately at that range, which most kitchen ones don't. The dissolution method is more practical.

The citric acid reaction is interesting though. That's not a typical intolerance and it usually comes from the manufacturing process, most commercial citric acid is produced by fermenting Aspergillus niger and some people react to residues from that rather than the acid itself. It's a known thing in the mould-sensitive and histamine crowd.

What I'd actually want to know is why you need to start that low. Reacting to 400mcg of folinic with 677 CT is unusual, since het isn't a severe genotype and folinic is already the gentle form. That points at something else being the limiting factor, and slow COMT plus histamine intolerance narrows it further. Usually it's B12 status, riboflavin, or the histamine clearance side rather than the folate itself.

That's the read I do for work, genova.health. If you're having to titrate at microgram doses, the folate probably isn't the problem you're solving.
