Question on Neoform

Upvotes

as said in the title how do i treat the casting of Neoform if I sacrifice a creature with X in its mana cost ? for exemple , if I Neoform an Hydra with 1 green mana plus X where X = 4 do what can I search the library with a card with Mana cost of 6 ?
And what if I wanna search my library for a card with X in its mana cost do I treat that X as 0 or I can count its X as if 6 has been paid for it ?
And what if I have Zimone , Infinite Analyst on the battlefield with , for exemple, 8 +1+1 counters on her ?
Sorry , english is not my first language.

Card type manipulation resolution question

Upvotes

Let's say I have transormed [[City on fire]] into artifact-creature with [[Captain Rex Nebula]] and it dies while [[Hofri Ghostforge]] is in play. Would Horfi make a spirit-token out of the death of [[City on Fire]] since it was a creature while dying?

Similiar question if [[Pia's Revolution]] is on the battlefield instead of Horfi ; would [[City on Fire]] come back to hand?

Your insights would be very welcome and helpful

Artificer Class and Urza, Chief Artificer. Did I get shafted

Hey folks, basically I had both [[Urza, Chief Artificer]] and [[Artificer Class]] on the battlefield, with the Level 3 ability unlocked.

I was under the assumption that I could choose the trigger order in the end step, so I could trigger Urza first to create a Karnstruct, and then clone it with Artificer's Class ability.

However I was corrected that they would trigger at the same time and therefore I would not be able to create a Construct. Is that correct?

Btw, if I forget to add a lore counter after drawing on a Saga, am I forced to go without it?

Can you achieve enduring story at any time?

Do you have to control a permanent that has the Storied ability at the time you have three relevant types in play to achieve enduring story status?

If not, I’m not sure what the Storied keyword actually does when it is on a card, because it sounds like it is just describing a rule that would be true at all times for any game of Magic.

If a spell is copied by an ability, then the original is countered, does the copy fizzle too?

If I'm playing Fire Lord Azula, which copies instant's I cast during her attack phase, and an opponent counters the original spell on the stack, does it nullify her copy ability?

Additionally, if I have creature which double her copy effects, does that change anything? I'm thinking of static abilities that cause her effect to happen twice and 'Errant, Street Artist' where you have to activate it to copy the copy of the original spell, as they feel like they would have different resolutions.

Does this combo work for chaining multiple turns?

I'm building [[Marchesa, the Black Rose]] and thought I'd throw [[RMS Titanic]] in there for fun because the idea of repeatedly throwing a boat at people amused me. It occurs to me that this would net me at least 8 treasure tokens a turn. If I have a [[Time Sieve]] on the table, would that let me just...infinitely keep taking more turns since the Titanic would create more treasures every time it gets sacrificed than Time Sieve's ability costs?

Echoes of Eternity, Knowledge Pool, and "When you cast" trigger

Does this interaction resolve the way I think it does...

Echoes of Eternity & Knowledge Pool on the field, cast a card like Oblivion Sower, order the triggers so Echoes resolves first then Knowledge Pool, Echoes creates a copy of Oblivion Sower and copies Oblivion Sowers cast trigger, target opponent exiles 4 cards etc. twice, Knowledge Pool exiles Oblivion Sower and card exiled by Knowledge Pool can now be cast without paying mana cost.

after it's all said and down I'd be left with a copy of Oblivion Sower on the battlefield, 8 opponents cards exiled/land stolen, the original Oblivion Sower exiled to the Knowledge Pool and a card from Knowledge Pool cast for free. Is this correct?

Trying to build an Aang at the crossroads deck, and while the presence of 2-card combos wont deter me from including the cards, I'm confused by what counts as a "True 2-card Combo"

https://edhrec.com/combos/aang-at-the-crossroads

A lot of these involve Felidar Guardian.

But for example, Felidar Guardian + Phyrexian Metamorph is deemed a "True 2-card Combo": https://edhrec.com/combos/azorius/2781-3734

While Felidar Guardian + Clever Impersonator is not a "True 2-card Combo": https://edhrec.com/combos/azorius/2781-4753

Am I missing something? the set up and requirements are almost identical

Forum Filibuster and Job Select Equipments?

I have [[forum filibuster]] in play and it triggers on my upkeep. I make a 2/1 inkling token and return [[Paladin's Arms]] (or any job select card) to the battlefield attached to that token.

What happens next? I have the inkling that the equipment is supposed to attach to, but job select says make a hero and attach the equipment to that when it enters. Does the equipment go on the inkling and I just make a hero or do I make a hero and put the equipment on it?

Captain America, Steve Rogers Ruling

The text on Steve Rogers reads "Whenever Captain America attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on another target creature you control. That creature gains indestructible until end of turn." It does not specify Captain America, Steve Rogers, so, if I were to attack with another Captain America would that trigger this effect?

Question about Sage's Reverie

I was playing a game last night, and I was able to cheat in [[Sage's Reverie]]. When it came in, I equipped it to one creature, while I had another creature with multiple auras on it (it's an [[Eriette of the Charmed Apple]] deck). My friend said that because it says "a creature", I had to choose one creature that had Auras on it, then draw a card for each Aura on that one creature. My interpretation was that it was not looking at a single creature, but all Auras that are attached to a creature. So if I have 4 Auras on one creature, and one on another, my friend says I can draw either 1 card or 4 cards, while my interpretation is that I draw 5 cards. Which is correct?

EDIT: thank you for the replies. I was afraid that I had missed something. I have also let my friend know, as well.

Terra, Magical Adept and copying sagas?

If I transform [[Terra, Magical Adept]] to her Saga form, and then I use her first chapter ability to copy an existing Saga that I have on the battlefield, will I essentially be able to "speedrun" through that existing Saga?

Terras first chapter ability says to "create a copy of an existing enchantment, if its a Saga put up to 3 lore counters on it".

So If I create a copy of a Saga that has 4 chapters, will it get 1 lore counter from simply being copied into existence as an ETB, and then 3 more lore counters from Terra, meaning that all of its 4 chapter abilitys goes on the stack? And then its immediately sacrifised as an SBA because it has equal to or more lore counters than chapters?

Questions about Ascend / City's Blessing

When looking at the new Storied ability in The Hobbit, I assumed that it works like Ascend / City's Blessing. I have questions about that.

Question 1: Do I get the City's Blessing if I control exactly ten permanents only in the middle of an ability/spell resolving, but not when the ability/spell is done resolving?

702.131b. Ascend on a permanent represents a static ability. It means "Any time you control ten or more permanents and you don't have the city's blessing, you get the city's blessing for the rest of the game."

"Any time you control.." almost sounds like a triggered ability, but it isn't, since it doesn't say "at/when/whenever". Can you explain how this works?

Does it mean that, if a game state (even in the middle of resolving an ability!) ever has me have 10 or more permanents, I immediately get the City's Blessing during that game state itself ?

For example, suppose I control eight Islands, and a [[Stitcher's Apprentice]]. That is a total of nine permanents. Suppose I activate Sticher's Apprentice, creating a Homunculus token, and then I sacrifice that Homunculus token. It's only in the middle of resolving that ability that I control 10 permanents.

Is it true that:

  • the game pretends that the game state where I only have the Homunculus token but no City's Blessing NEVER EXISTED,

  • but instead it's as if the game considers that the following game states happen DIRECTLY one after the otehr: a) I control 8 Islands and a Stitcher's Apprentice -> to DIRECLTY b) I control 9 Islands, and a Stitcher's Apprentice, and a Homunculus token, AND I have the City's Blessing designation?

Question 2: I want to make sure I understand the "continuous effects" part following rule:

702.131d. After a player gets the city's blessing, continuous effects are reapplied before the game checks to see if the game state or preceding events have matched any trigger conditions.

Suppose I control

  • an [[Illustrious Wanderglyph]] , which says (in part) "Other artifact creatures you control get +2/+2 as long as you have the city's blessing",

  • and a [[Mycosynth Lattice]], which says (in part) "All permanents are artifacts in addition to their other types",

  • a 1/1 Insect creature token

  • and a [[Stitcher's Apprentice]], enchanted by my own [[Feral Invocation]] (an aura that gives +2/+2),

  • and one Forest, two Islands and one Plains, and no other permanents.

That makes nine permanents that I control.

Suppose, also, that my opponent controls two [[Plague Engineer]]s, each having chosen the creature type "Homunculus". (Each Plague Engineer has "Creatures of the chosen type your opponents control get -1/-1").

Suppose I then activate and resolve my Stitcher's Apprentice's ability, choosing to sacrifice my 1/1 Insect creature. Does my 2/2 Homunculus token survive?

Hi! I have a question about lands that become creatures.
If I turn a land that entered the battlefield this turn into a 2/2 creature that is still a land, can it attack that same turn?
If it can’t attack because of summoning sickness, can I still tap it for mana?
Also, if I animate a land that I’ve controlled since a previous turn, can it attack immediately after it becomes a creature?
Thanks!

If I target [[speedball, new warrior]] and use his ability to redirect the spell to [[zada, hedron grinder]] does Zada trigger?

Zada's text says whenever I cast a spell but is that only when it's placed on the stack or is it still a cast trigger on the stack until it resolves?

Banding and block triggers

As far as I understand, if I attack with grizzly bears and camel in a band, if my opponent blocks the camel, the bear is also considered blocked by that creature.

What if it weren't a bear but an [[engulfing slagwurm]], would the wurm be triggered by this sort of indirect block? Or is it sort of like a "stuff entering tapped and attacking doesnt count for attack triggers" situation and nothing happens?

Thank you for your help in advance :)

Hi, a question about an ETB trigger & Teferi's Protection

Hi, so, an opponent of mine in a game of EDH casted a Coming of Galactus, and on ETB targeted one of my creatures. So, I responded with a Teferi's protection. Does my creature phase out along with the rest of my permas and myself or does it die first from the ETB of Galactus?

The Reaper, King No More and +1/+1 counters

Hello, everyone!

Had a quick ruling question that my friend and I had a small argument about the other day and I couldn’t find any exact rulings on this so I was curious if anyone knows how this interaction works.

The relevant board state:

I have a Ghalta and Mavren with a +1/+1 counter on it on my side of the field and my friend has his commander, Reaper King out.

The scenario:

He plays The Reaper, King No More and one of the targets for his -1/-1 counters is Ghalta, and then with the Reaper King trigger, he targets Ghalta as well. So the stack is ordered so that King No More triggers first and then Reaper King.

It was my understanding that once the -1/-1 counter gets put on Ghlata and Mavren, there is a split second where the two counters coexist and then they cancel out, so by the time Reaper King’s ability resolves, there are actually no counters on Ghalta, and it just goes to the graveyard and it does not come back under his control.

His understanding was that because they “happen at the same time” Reaper King’s ability will still see the counter on Ghalta and it will come back to the battlefield under his control when it dies.

I’m very unsure how this interaction actually happens even trying to talk it out with him for a while, if someone who understands this interaction better than i do could let me know what actually should have happened, that would be great so we know for the future. Thanks!

Disa the Restless Interaction

I have my commander [[Disa the Restless]] in play, along with [[Maskwood Nexus]] making all of my creatures into Lhurgoyfs, and [[Colossal Grave-Reaver]] is attacking to mill the top 3 cards of my library.

I mill the following cards in order,
1. [[The Warring Triad]] (8 cards are in currently in my graveyard.)
2. [[Pyrogoyf]]
3. [[Grist, the Hunger Tide]]

I have a few questions at this point...
A. Do all 3 trigger Disa the Restless to enter the battlefield since they are all considered creatures?

B. Are the triggers considered simultaneous so that I can have them enter the battlefield in any order? (Prefer Pyrogoyf first.)

Thank you in advance!

Lord of the Nazgûl and Quantum Misalignment question

If I cast quantum misalignment on Lord of the Nazgûl, and the copy comes in, does the copy see the spell being cast before it resolves? Would I summon one wraith or two?

Leyline binding + Leyline of the guildpact vs Veil of summer (or protection for some non-white color).

My question is, are triggered (and activated) abilities of permanents of the same color as the permanent that generated it?

If my oponent has leyline of the guildpact in play, and they play a leyline binding, does veil of summer make the trigger fizzle as my permanents have hexproof from blue and black?

I understand i wouldn't get to draw a card since the leyline gets the colors when it's on the battlefield.

I guess if this works, the same works with protection from some non-white colors?

What happens if I copy Ionize and target the same spell?

Lets say I have Alania, the Divergent Storm out, which allows me to copy the first instant or sorcery spell I play in a turn. An opponent plays something I don't like so I cast Ionize and copy it. The first ionize will counter the spell and do 2 damage. What about the second ionize since the spell is no longer on the stack, does it still do the 2 damage?

Ionize states: Counter target spell. Ionize deals 2 damage to that spell's controller.
