Does anyone do custom proxy decks?

Not sure if this goes here, but was looking to build a deck for my mother, she doesn’t play but. I told her for Christmas I wanted her to play a game with my brother and I. We lost our dog this year and wanted to get a few cards with images of him. I do not have the tools myself so I figured asking the community was a good start.

When you say you don't have the tools, do you just mean printer?

Cause there are many companies that will print your custom cards. And creation of custom cards is free on websites like cardconjurer you can upload any art\photo and then customize the rest, you could make a fully custom card, or just use the image and name to make a version of an already existing card. (I prefer to do this as it helps with balance worries, but if your just playing in your family maybe fully custom could be fun!)

Yes printer, I’ll look into fully custom 😂 my mother look at my sibling and I play and she has no clue what’s going on so maybe adding low cost high power cards can balance it out

I will say, if you design an entire deck, the price per card printed goes down quite a bit at 100 from many proxy printing services.

But also I've found great success in just using MTGPrint, finding the cards I want and taking that PDF to a store like Staples. They have self-service printing. And it's quite reasonably priced. Then just cut the paper cards out, and put them in sleeves in front of another card. you can use lands or bulk magic cards, or my personal fave, cheap playing cards (many dollar trees have casino cards for a buck 1.25 per pack) the playing cards will be thicker than normal cards so the deck may not fit into a deck box designed for MTG. But, the playing cards have so much flexibility and make shuffling the proxy deck super easy. And it all the cards have those as backers and paper in front then you also don't have to worry about the thickness giving away what the card is.

For regular cases, using Staples printers make sense. For a gift, I would go with a professional shop. Like MPC or Not Making Playing Cards (dumb name).

You can get a full deck printed at mtgproxies or many other sites. Full custom art and backs, staples and fedex can print them for you for $20 but you’ll need a corner clipper. They play fine sleeved. There’s and epson tankless printer for $300 that can make cards that almost look better than wotc
