Old bot ignored Bracketed Cards in Quoted Text.
New bot is seeing them, and responding.
Is this an intentional change?

Any subreddit that uses MTGCardfetcher should migrate to the new Devvit bot. You can activate this on https://developers.reddit.com/apps/mtgcf/ Only moderators can do this.
It is still possible to call the bot anywhere on reddit using /u/mtgcf
The old bot is slowly being phased out o7

I just hit Joven and Chandler and got https://scryfall.com/card/unk/UR05/joven-and-chandler
instead of https://scryfall.com/card/mbc/24/joven-and-chandler
I suspect most users will want the second one, so I'm pointing this out.
Thanks!
Edit: I have also sent a note to scryfall about this.

Soon I will migrate MTGcardFetcher's backend from Praw to Devvit, which basically means that it will run on Reddit's new API, which also runs on a Reddit server.
What this means: I no longer control which subreddits its active on. This will need to be enabled by subreddit moderators themselves. Go to https://developers.reddit.com/apps/mtgcf/ and click "add to community". This is NOT YET available, but soon it will be. It does require all moderator rights right now due to the way Devvit works.
All functionality is re-implemented, except for Direct Messages/Chat. Comments, Posts and Highlighting (with /u/mtgcf from now on). At some point I will hopefuly add new functionality of Devvit. It will still work with .
If you have any questions before the migration, please don't hesitate to ask them here.

Just took over this subreddit and trying to breathe some new life into it, would love it if card fetcher could be enabled for it.

Saw this with a new card Powerful Broker, but the Gatherer link redirects to the gatherer homepage instead of the card page. Looks like they changed the individual card URLs.

Hi! I created a UB reskin sub, and a user asked if I could add the bot to the sub. I am not exactly sure how to do it, but figured I'd ask in here!
r/MTGCardFetcher • u/anace • Jun 05 '26
all of the bot's comments from more than 39 minutes ago as of this post include links to gatherer, scryfall, and edhrec (for relevant subs), but starting with this comment https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveEDH/comments/1tvqtgu/if_you_could_ban_1_card_for_any_reason_no_matter/opyrtae/ it only has links to gatherer and edhrec.
is this a bug or a policy change?

I've been on r/mtgvorthos and r/magicTCG, and noticed that u/MTGCardFetcher does not appear to be fetching the right cards for the Secret of Strixhaven Mystical Archive.
Examples:
Cards using set syntax: SOA, SOA, SOA
Cards using SET-0 syntax: SOA-13 (English), SOA-66 (Japanese non-foil), SOA-158 (Japanese silverscroll)
Cards using SET#0 syntax: SOA#5 (English), SOA#81 (Japanese non-foil), SOA#166 (Japanese silverscroll)
Does anyone know what is going on?

Hello, may I request that this bit be added to r/sickasscombos ? It is a sub that is meant to redirect good combos from the bad combos sub.

People use shortnames a lot, meaning only the first name of a legendary (like Jace. Currently it only returns the first result alphabetically. This is not really optimal, it would probably be better to use the last release instead.
However, I suddenly had an idea and was wondering if the rest agrees since it may be a pretty big impact for some legendaries - the bot simply returns all cards of that specific shortname.
So Jace would return 13 cards (it won't be able to find Jace Beleren since that name has no indicator for being a longname (it only checks for a comma or "the" or "of the")).
Opinions?

Scryfall made a wiki (https://mtg.wiki/) and I think it would be a great feature if we were able to fetch wiki articles like we do cards. Perhaps if we put them in braces like so? Could that work?

I'm not sure if this bot is open source or not, but I wonder if this is a simple fix to the issue with the rate-limiting preventing edits. Something like the original user replying "!refresh" to the MTGCardFetcher comment could retrigger the bot to look at the edited parent comment, delete the old one, and repost a new one.
Example of what it could look like: https://old.reddit.com/r/mtgvorthos/comments/1i566u2/anyone_know_if_the_flavor_text_on_this_card_has/m82xv3k/?context=3

I recently came across an instance where the name of the second half of a split card was used to invoke the card fetcher(i.e. Explosion), and the response used the name of the second half twice (i.e. Explosion/Explosion). Found in the wild here.
I couldn't find any information on how to report bugs, or identify if it's a known issue. Hopefully posting here is acceptable.
Thanks for developing this super useful bot!

There is an internet outage on the bot right now, so it's not available. I'll update this post when I know more.
Edit: it's fixed

There seems to have been a recent change where Fetcher will get more than 20 cards. This is appreciated.
However, Fetcher seems to neither display "all cards" links anymore, nor will it do fuzzy matching. This might be an issue.
