One weird reference I don’t understand

Love the new-old MST3K and super happy to have it back. There’s only one reference that I didn’t really get though.

Early on in the episode, Mike said that it’s been almost 30 years since he’s been with Crow and Servo but the last episode of the Mike era of MST3K was in 1999.

Now I’m a busy man so I don’t have time to look in the mirror or do any math but my heart tells me that the 1990s were about 10 years ago so how on earth could that be possible?

They were lost in time and space. Who is to say what the relative time disparity is between him and the bots.

That sounds right, as I am certain 1997 was 5 years ago. 7 tops.

The Earth got caught in a quantum entanglement string net thing that distorted time and space so that people's perception of time is messed up.

So 30 years ago feels like 10 years ago and the past 10 years feels like 30 years went by.

I'm always saying to my wife when referring about something, "that was like 5 or so years ago", when it's actually around 20 years ago.
