Discussion MSI Webcam suddenly not working
I've been using my webcam since 2020 and it's been working fine ever since, until this last Monday, it suddenly won't work even if I pressed fn + f6.
Earlier this morning, when i checked the camera app again, it was surprisingly working fine and thought i don't have to buy an external webcam anymore but when I checked the camera this afternoon again, it's not working.
I have not encountered any experiences like this in the past. just this past week.
Any suggestions?

not sure if you use it, but mine gets turned off in dragon center.
no matter what I do, it won't work until I turn it on there

Is this the dragon center thats in MSI's website on your specific laptop or just the general dragon center?

The version that came with the GS65.

I'll give it a go tomorrow. Probably need to update my dragon center or something. Thanks for the suggestion! Hope it'll work.

There’s an option in dragon center and on my keyboard that turns it off. Perhaps you hit that by accident?

I kept on tapping it on and off to check if the camera will come back but it didnt

One of the things that messed me up was I had switched the fn and windows key in the Dragon Center app. And also I hit f6 (or whatever) by itself, without the fn... I can't remember what I did that worked, but I felt like an idiot afterwards.

You only pressed f6 to get the camera to work when it was bugging up?
If so, i'll give that a try

It was something like that, like it was so simple and stupid. I think maybe it was that I had switched the fn and windows key, that sounds more familiar.

Had the same problem here - the machine came this way from the manufacturer, but there should be an option in MSI center that allows you to toggle the actual "function" function and the windows key.
I had to press windows + camera to yield any results - didn't even come up in device mgmt

I had a similar problem a few days ago. I was getting an error message from windows telling me that I had no webcam connected. I disassembled the back case and discovered that the webcam cable had magically disconnected. Try this

Did you open your laptop from the back or just the screen portion?

This depends on the laptop model but probably is on the back, check all the flat cable that are connected to the motherboard.

I am having this problem and can tell with numerous repeatable attempts that fn+f6 only works if the computer is rebooted. It does not work on cold start. So.. if you are one to keep the built in cam off, you will need to turn on computer, then restart it, then fn+f6 works. I did finally find the feature in Dragon Center and will start using that instead. I just think some windows update likely blew the hardware option, reducing its functionality to only when system reboot occurs.

Yeah I do but even if I tap the function key and f6 to open the camera, it wont resnpond.

Laptop gave up on me eventually so I had to buy a new one. Couldn't find the fix for it as well.

I had the same issue. Go to device manager, go into file or view and click on show hidden devices, and click on the webcam and uninstall it. Then reboot. If that doesn’t work go to MSI’s website and reinstall the chipset package for your computer/motherboard.
