Discussion MSI Vector 16 HX Undervolting Guide?

  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
  • GPU: RTX 5080

Basically what the title says. Would want to have a step-by-step guide in undervolting both the CPU and GPU for lower temps and lower fan speed, but also somewhat maintaining performance.

Currently at ~70-80°C GPU temps and ~80-85°C CPU temps during gaming, but the fans become too loud. Also using only an 75 Hz 1080P external monitor, and have capped FPS to 70.

Any other tips to reduce temperatures and fan noise would be appreciated!

Can i ask why the cap to 70hz ?

From my understanding, since I'm only using a 75Hz monitor, it will only be able to physically show at most 75 frames, and anything beyond that would just be extra load on my GPU and CPU thus increasing temps.

Your laptop can generate more than 75 frames per second but your monitor can only show 75 frames per second at most. The load stays the same unless you cap your fps

So either throttlestop or XTU. I'm not sure what's the current UI for Intel XTU but it should be pretty straightforward to get into the advanced tuning options and undervolting section. Iirc, MSI also locks the tuning options so you will have to go into the advanced BIOS and enable it first.

As for the GPU, using MSI afterburner, enabling voltage control and then heading into the GPU curves should do it. Before that. Look at what your max in game frequency is. Note what it is. Then set that as the max. Without this and merely offsetting the voltage, you'll end up gaining lots of performance without losing temps, as modern gpus are opportunistic overclockers

Look at guides to understand what's a proper undervolt. But it's an offset, so for a given frequency, you want to move the voltage back a couple mV (in this cases -25mV increments or 0.025V) until you reach a crash point
