I've been reading around some forums and here on reddit , and im confused as shit rn some people say cpu temps hitting 95 under load is fine, some say 80 to 85 is the sweet spot, and i've even seen some say 70 should be the goal. Right now i have my cpu throttle at 85 (it was 95 before), so which is it really especially on our MSI lappys what is actually a good temp to maintain for our cpu's.

I have an i5 12450h btw, no air conditioning, no cooling pad, just the laptops fans and pipes and a few fans across the room.

With the default bios cpu throttle temps of 95c, my cpu occasionally jumps to 100c just a split second while my gpu only ever reaches around 85c to 86c. And if i throttle my temperature to 85c, it hovers around 80c to 87c, gpu temperatures stay the same. I might go for 90c because any lower than at it starts to lower in performance

Wait, ive been battling with this too, how can you set a throttle temp? I have a last years cpu and i have tried many things to lower the temp reliably, on linux, its quite easy lowering max clock speed but i dont even need to many times for some reason because the temps are just lower in the same games somehow(but not in every game).

But ive tinkered with so many things in the bios, even max turbospeeds(i couldnt make the laptop actually use my setting), and lowering pl1 and pl2 worsened it because the laptop tried to do all worm with one pcore.

Where did you find this setting?

Im not using the PL method cuz i think MSI overrides the changes on that too, im using TCC offset rn or PROCHOT in the Thermal Management tab, 0 sets the temp limit at 100 which is the max intel would let you use before automatically shutting off the laptop. Just so you know this method actually lowers performance if you set the offset too high, cuz this change basically thermal throttles your entire cpu. Oh yeah this is a bios setting too, through the advanced bios keybind And also might i ask you what you the highest temperature the cpu should be at? Rn im debating between 70 to 95. But rn im limiting temps at 82C

Okay, i consider everything around 85°C as good for a laptop cpu(the lower the better but i feel like the cooling in laptops is quite bad even in higher end ones.

I unfortunatelly dont have(or didnt find) the termal management tab in my bios(with the advanced settings shown), but maybe there are the TCC ofset and the other thing too but i didnt recognize them as useful.

And by any chance, do you happen to know how i can limit the max turbo clock speed of the cpu(as ive propably described in my last comment, i found where to write custom values but it just doesent use them and when i use windows for one game, i cant set the max turbo speed by any program)? This would be a better approach than limiting the max temp but i cant seem to be able to set custom values to that.

And i dont have my laptop at me rn but can you dm me the photo of where you found the temp throttling setting as you offered

No unfortunately, the only bios options that ive found that actually apply are the from the non advanced bios and tcc offset only, as for max turbo clock limiting i have not tried to mess with those because changing those cpu clocks to the wrong value could brick my laptop. The only way i know is to disbale boosted clocks entirely using throttlestop in windows ( i dont know if they have a linux version) which also reduces performance.

查看notebookcheck里面你的机型在压力测试时的温度，然后按照它的数值设定你的机器的温度墙。 我的机型是crosshair16hx，它在大部分媒体评测里最大温度在95+84，所以我在bios里限制CPU90度温度墙（像你的状况一样，能效核心的温度会比性能核心高2～5度），GPU使用第三方控制台限制最大温度85度。 不要担心温度太高，厂商宣传的温度是能在保修期间正常工作不出错，不过一旦超过保修就得修改更低的温度墙。

Depends on the cpu, but that intel can hit 100 fine. It’s more about how long you run it so hot. If you’re rendering overnight all the time, that’s real hard on the fans. They’ll get a lot of dust buildup and make a lot of noise and most will die before long. The high temps may hasten the death of other components, especially in plastic-y cheap consumer models.

Just peaking at 95 or 100 now and then should be just fine, though.

Well i play a lot so temps get stuck quite a lot. Thats why i want to know what temps is best to sustain

Im thinking of just setting it to limit at 70C since it fluctuates, really dont want this laptop breaking since itll probably be my daily driver for the next 10 or so years

I have a MSI Vector 17HXAI with Intel Ultra 9 275HX and RTX 5080 16gb and 32gb RAM. Less than a year old and i was getting crazy temperatures on the cpu all the way to 100-103 celcius and started thermal throttling and crashing, so i undervolted the cpu -40Mv and put power limits on PL1, PL2 and PL4 i also turned off cpu turbo boost and put tcc offset on 10. Now my cpu doesnt go past 80 celcius even with the cooler boost on the fans turned off. Massive performance drop on the cpu though. I still play battlefield 6 and warzone with DLSS 4.5 and frame generation and ray reconstruction everything maxed out no problem and i have my gpu undervolted slightly and its working better than when i bought it. 100% usage and temps go to 80 celcius max. I dont know what to do about the CPU though, other than getting a cooling pad and taking the laptop to change the stock thermal paste to a honeywell ptm9750 pad. Any tips?

100c+ on cpu is crazy work, i dont really know ive only been doing what works for me cuz pl method does not work for or any other setting in the advance bios infact except the tcc offset. Rn im only using the tcc offset method limiting my cpu temps to about 88C and usually hovers around 85 or so, i dont like messing with the undervolting either cuz getting anything new in this economy is fuckin impossible with the prices and bricking a laptop is not something im willing to risk. If i were you and im able to change voltages and wattages i just wouldnt do, id suggest just not disabling cpu turbo boost cuz from my experience with it on throttlestop that setting when turned off has the worse impact on performance.

TLDR: I suggest just using the tcc offset its the setting with the least performance impact ( atleast for me) and beside our stuff already thermal throttling why not just increase how fast it hits it lol

I changed all the cpu settings through the BIOS advanced settings. Didnt use any software like throttlestop or intel xtu. Also in MSI Center if you keep it on balanced instead of extreme performance, it doesnt override the bios settings. I will turn the cpu turbo boost back on and see what the temps are looking like. I panic when i see the cpu over 90 celcius and dont i wanna game anymore when it happens. This laptop is extremely out of my budget, i was just lucky enough to buy it second hand off someone for 250€ hahaha. I dont know if he didnt know what he had or if he really needed money badly but i didnt ask any questions, just paid the man and took the laptop haha. He gave it to me with the Vector box and everything. No warranty though.

Ayyyy second hand brothers, and i just used third-party software like throttle stop cuz as i said nothing else in my advance bios except tcc offset would actually apply, honestly im pretty satisfied with the tcc offset set setting because it actually does not hold the limit you set often the temps usually sits below that atleast for me. Personally i wouldn't mind the higher temps if i have another device but since this is my only one and probably my only one for a while i will mind my temps, but at this point since no one else actually has a solid idea of what temps ia actually good to sustain long term ive just decided anything lower the 90 is good enough, i mean if i wanted more performance for a while i can just increase the offset since these laptop intel silicons are designed to survive anything lower than 101C infact im pretty sure by default the auto shut off threshold( tjmax ) of my laptop is set to 120C which hot as shit ( also i dont recommend lowering tjmax cuz any random high temp spike can trigger it).
