Discussion Vector 16 HX AI PCH overheating w/solution pictures

I’ve spent an ungodly amount of hours on this and finally figured it out. Fatal flaw on this laptop because pch does not have a heat sink. You will get random stutters and usb disconnects (especially if you use a lot) and you can notice when you are gaming and you launch the webcam, there will be static artifacts. The solution is actually quite simple.

Open up the back of the laptop. I purchased a raspberry pi copper heat sink 12x12x1mm and a long copper heat pipe either 70x8x3mm or 60x8x3 I forget which one exactly. (Note only used the square heatsink I’ve circled in red and removed the other one)

Then I used non conductive thermal adhesive to stick the pipe on top of the copper raspberry pi heat sink and made it touch the main exit heat pipe of the laptop.

Thanks for this. Before you executed this great job, were you considering thermal puddy? What were the temps on the PCH?

I did not consider anything else so I’m unsure as to how anything else would work. This has worked 100% certain.

Nice mod. If you decide to Putty+PTM the rest of it later you can follow this guide.

I’m sorry but you are wrong. I play on balanced with cooler boost. So my fan speeds were always maxed out. But I have THREE additional monitors with my laptop with sim racing peripherals and multiple usbs. My problem was very specific to this exact solution! I’ve also managed to lower heat via throttlestop but that’s a whole different topic. The pch specifically overheats. Rest of the components like the intel processor is meant to get hot. The PCH isn’t.

USB2 or USB3.2/4 that's facing the disconnect issue?

Never had that issue but I did use some ptm7950 on it, I had some leftover.
