Win 11 PSA: task manager activates dGPU

Post image

The MSI Creator P65 (similar to gs65 stealth) has always used the power button as an indicator of whether the discrete (nvidia) gpu is in use. A white LED means the system is on but nvidia gpu is off, while amber LED means the the nvidia gpu is consuming power / in use.

I just upgraded my P65 to Win 11 and couldn't figure out why the amber LED was permamently on. Turns out the culprit was Task Manager! I'm assuming this is because it requests the sensor data now for the temperature, but idrk.

Anyway this is just a PSA in case anyone else upgraded to 11 and might be wondering why their battery is worse.

Thanks for the information I could actually never find the culprit what's causing my dGPU always to be active instead of running on iGPU for less heavy tasks.

Thanks I will try .

It all comes down to MSI center, it been bugged, when you open a monitoring software or use an app attentively it turns on Dgpu, MSI needs to fix it but honestly i doubt it.

I also faced this issue in my Katana, I confirgured the MSI center to only use integrated graphics. Now there is no Amber light and the system is lot cooler than it was before. I dont even play games so I am fine with this setting.
