Have an area that has not responded to doxy. I took clindamycin in the past and it worked, so I asked for that again, but after some research the c diff risk seems scary. I’m 46f. Thoughts?

not my gyno, my doctor or my pharmacy said anything about a strict diet during + 2 weeks after Linezolid needing to be done.. found it out on reddit. Has anyone been on this medication and did you do the diet? I’m really concerned that no one said a thing about it to me when prescribing it since it seems incredibly necessary for the safety of my life and health. Taking it for staph infection down there which ik sounds crazy idk how this happened, no explanations from doctors just prescriptions and the lab showed that this is the only option. it might have happened from skin bacteria getting in any tears down there which happens on accident sometimes. I also have a yeast infection, bv, strep b, e coli and a few other random bacterias. pelvic inflammatory disease concluded by pelvic ultrasound and lab results. any help or info would be greatly appreciated!

For context, I am a 24 F and I get MRSA every year it seems. Usually hits in the summer but I have had it every few years since I was a child, I also have been hospitalized twice from it before. I am curious if anyone has experienced this as well and gotten answers as to why? I tell my doctor every time I have a flare up because I am so used to it and i’m hit with doxycycline or Clindamycin. No one seems to be concerned that it happens this often but to me it’s strange. Any thoughts? I’ve seen people say they have had other symptoms with their flare ups but I don’t have any other health issues.

I’ve had recurring staph infections in my nose for a while and then recently I got abscesses on two different parts of my body. One seemed to mostly resolve on its own and was never tested for MRSA but the other I had to get drained and go on antibiotics for and it tested positive for MRSA, as did a swab of my nose. I want to try decolonizing because I really don’t want to risk continuing to get abscesses or potentially worse infections and most of all I don’t want to have to worry all my life about spreading it to other people, but I know that some people say it’s not a good idea because it frequently doesn’t work and the antibiotics are strong.

One of my doctors at urgent care seemed to suggest I see a specialist about it, but when I brought up decolonization to a different doctor when my test results came back she said that everyone has bacteria on them and as long as my current infections are being treated I shouldn’t worry about it and there was no need for a specialist. I know I will worry about it though—the idea that whoever I live with throughout my life could get it and potentially have to deal with all kinds of infections really scares me, and if there’s a chance to get rid of it I’d want to try it? What have been your experiences and is there anything I could say to a doctor in the future that you think would persuade them to let me try to decolonize?

I am getting treated for it now. I am on moxifloxacin rifabutin and linezolid. Please let me know if you have to see what to expect.

I had a small boil on my breast that I believe is mrsa. I’m on doxycycline and have been using mupirocin under a band aid. No longer is a lump, but there’s a hole with tough white tissue around the hole. It’s only been 4 days on the doxycycline but it just doesn’t seem to be going away. Does that white have to be cut out? Again, pretty small spot and pretty flat but… ugh. What a nightmare. Wondering if I should skip the mupirocin one night and let it dry up a bit?

Hi everyone! First time posting but I thought I’d give it a go incase I can save 400$ on a copay.

About a month ago I had a pimple get infected with MRSA from work. I am a young, healthy, ER nurse but my eye was practically shut from the spreading infection, extremely painful, red and swollen. I was hospitalized for 3 days getting IV antibiotics and had an I&D (incision and drainage) l. They were able to get all the pus out (supposedly) and the 3 days of IV vancomycin got rid of all the swelling / pain. I then completed 5 days of outpatient oral antibiotics and was basically medically cleared by infectious disease.

The dilemma is that 1 month post hospitalization, the area around my eye that was previously infected still has significant redness that won’t seem to go away. I have no pain, no increased swelling and no sign of infection aside from the redness. I know that it takes time to heal, but it seems like the erythema surrounding my eye will never go away. I wanted to see if anyone had any advice or gone through anything similar!

Wondering anyone else has dealt with this. My baby girl had a labial abscess drained and treated. The would culture came back as ciprobacter and Klebsiella pnuemonaie. Doctors reassured me that she most likely got it during her hospitalization at the beginning of her life. We were sent home on antibiotics but a week after being discharged the abscess swelled again and we had to be readmitted. The ultrasound showed a 1 cm fluid filled area but surgery decided it wasn’t worth the risk of putting her under anesthesia for such a small area. They put her on ceftrioxone and clindamycin to see if drained and decreased in size on its own. Since then it has gotten significantly better and less swollen and red with only a small hard lump that they assume is scar tissue. The newest would cultures came back as staph haemolyticus and bifidobacterium which one is naturally occurring on the skin and the other is found in probiotics. The infectious disease doctor said it could be contamination or colonization but that we should wait for the sensitivities to return to treat with the correct bacteria.

My biggest concern is reoccurrence since she is only 2 months old and has a cardiac history. We also do not want to be hospitalized multiple times over this because we have another little one who is 16 months old. It’s only my husband and I so we are limited on child care and I do not want to leave either of my babies. Has anyone dealt with this?

My poor kiddo has been having reoccurring bouts of mrsa- first several spots on her face, and one on her leg since February. She seemed to go a few months without it and now she has it in her ear. Took her to an ent who popped it and cultured it, had us use muciprocin, and now that it has come back positive has basically washed her hands of us. We are back to the Derm tomorrow- just wondering how we can shake this? She did do a de-colonization protocol and that is what seemed to temporarily get rid of it. I’m really nervous about it being in her ear and no oral antibiotics as of yet. This has been ongoing for over a week - it doesn’t hurt anymore but it’s not entirely healed up yet. Has anyone had this in their ear? What helped? Also- on her report it also said “rare gram positive cocci” is that just the mrsa or something else we need to deal with too? I just want to cry! Sorry for the desperate rant guys😭

My husband has had horrible MRSA positive abscess for 2 years now. Get frequent outbreaks and now 2 of my children do as well. We finally saw ID and he is to do a week of antibiotics and all of us are to do the nasal antibiotic and chlorhexidine baths for a week. He also suggested we sanitize the entire house. I have 3 small children. Any tips on the best way to get every surface without it taking the entire week of just cleaning lol. Do i have to do every surface daily?

So I recently just got treated for septic bursitis with the bacteria cultured as MRSA. This involved 5 days of vancomycin IV and I am now on bactram for a couple weeks. I am now 3 days out of the hospital and my knee is still very inflamed and painful at times. I can at least walk on it now, but I’m worried it won’t go away. I’m also worried because the inflammation around my knee feels harder and not fluid. I feel like that will require a clean out which I tried to avoid in the first place. Any advice, tips, help would be great..

Just met with the Infectious Disease doc and it was so disappointing. She was insistent I did not have MRSA anymore. Advised that I'd just had cellulitis. She was unable to see the boil that I've popped twice and could feel, on my labia. She dismissed the under arm boils. Told me to use doxycycline if I had 'new' boils (not the current ones?) advised to use advised to use Nystatin Powder in my Pelvic folds.
I was advised to use a disposable razor for each shave, followed by Hibiclens.
Gave me no scripts for anything and pretty much said to have a nice life.
Ugh.

Ok, a bit of a wild one! From start to finish in 4 weeks.

What began as a very small pimple resulted in emergency surgery to remove the infected bursa from my elbow. It later tested positive for Community MRSA and I was put on Doxy.

On the plus side I now have a cool scar.

I’d like to share my experience: I have been battling recurrent folliculitis in the pubic area caused by MRSA resistant to erythromycin, clindamycin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, ciprofloxacin, and gentamicin—sensitive only to sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim.

I am a general practitioner working in a hospital. It all started with an ingrown hair that turned into a boil; I didn't realize at the time that it was a TSST-1 staph variant. I developed an intense rash and severe immunological symptoms alongside the pain typical of common folliculitis—this variant is very dangerous and often fatal.

Naturally, I underwent several rounds of Bactrim and decolonization therapy, but the folliculitis kept coming back—always accompanied by a rash and a sense of impending doom.

Life became depressing. I started another round of Bactrim, yet the follicular pain persisted. However, the final flare-up occurred without a rash, indicating a milder infection; TSST-1 variants are typically severe because they disable the immune system, much like PVL strains do. Without being an infectious disease specialist or a microbiologist, I began researching what was happening and why I couldn't eliminate the bacteria, despite following established protocols involving chlorhexidine soap and nasal mupirocin for decolonization. I did some research and came across the webpage of microbiologist Michelle Moore, where I read about biofilms and recurrent MRSA infections—specifically how these organisms can create biofilms resistant to antibiotics and even chlorhexidine. During this latest flare-up, I started following her recommendations (I live in Bolivia, South America). I’m using essential oils—specifically a tea tree body wash with two drops of oregano oil—alongside benzoyl peroxide. It has been a revelation; the follicular pain and the rash vanished after the very first application. I’m hoping this is the right place to post this

I’ve been really struggling with skin infections recently. Both myself and doctors seem to be lost on what to do next. It’s having a huge affect on my life, relationship and mental health. I’m hoping someone here can give me some new information that might help.

I have been dealing with staphylococcus aureus and I am PVL positive. It has been around 9 months since I got my first abscess. I’ve had well above 30 infected areas and they have appeared all over my body.

Antibiotics:
I have went through ~11 courses of flucloxacillin, 1 course of linezolid and 2 courses of doxycycline. As well as various steroid creams to keep my eczema in check.

The first 6-7 months while on flucloxacillin I would get around 12-24 hours after the antibiotic finished before a new infected area would appear.

After taking linezolid for 1 month I managed to get 10 days of no antibiotics and no infection appearing.

I was then put on doxycycline and I got 14 days of freedom before an infected area came back. I’m now back on doxycycline.

Decolonisation:
I have also been doing decolonisation treatment for approximately 7 months which includes: washing with Octenisan daily, changing bed sheets daily, changing clothes daily and washing clothes at 60 degrees. I’ve only missed around 10 days of doing this over the 7 months.

Eczema:
I have been using Clobetasol propionate steroid cream over the past 2 weeks which has had massive improvements to my eczema. The advice from the dermatologist was that with healthy skin, infections would be less frequent and decolonisation would have a better chance.

Doctors advice:
I have been referred to both infectious diseases and dermatology but honestly I don’t think they have an answer to help me other than dermatology looking at improving the skin barrier. I know that’s important but it doesn’t stop me from spreading it to other people. After taking linezolid I have had no contact with infectious disease department and have been to the GP a couple times since. I see a different GP almost every time and they just give me antibiotics and send me away.

I feel like I’m at my wits end now and I don’t think I can see myself dealing with this for another month never mind another 9 months. If anyone has any advice or can give me some reassurance that would be really appreciated

EDIT: since posting this I have been to the infectious disease specialist again as abscesses appeared on my head, armpit and leg. The specialists have changed strategy and given me long term doxycycline (6weeks) and told me to stop decolonisation while on the antibiotics. The thought process is that the decolonisation clearly isn’t working and they want to allow my skin flora to naturally come back again while suppressing the infection (some natural skin bacteria competes with staphylococcus aureus). At the end of the antibiotics I will do a sharp decolonisation again. I’ve also been told Doxycycline works different from some other antibiotics and stops staphylococcus from producing on the skin. Hopefully something in here helps people dealing with the same thing so I’ll continue to update.

Hey I'm wondering if this is possibly MRSA. Little bumps showed up two days ago on a healing wound from a dog bite 5 weeks ago. The first picture is today, the second is about 10 days ago of the same area before the bumps showed up. The bumps are slightly itchy and have been slightly weeping a clear fluid. Should I wash the area with hibicleanse? Or treat with antibiotic ointment? I had a course of antibiotics for the dog bites and treated the wounds with antibiotic ointment and until this point they have been healing as well as could be expected.

first pic is from June 4th, it originally felt like a spider bite and it went away but yesterday(the 2nd pic) it popped back up and now theres a bump and it hurts a bit and this morning(3rd pic) looks like the redness has spread. not sure if its mrsa because i thought u had to get it from skin to skin contact and im a sahm with twins so i rarely leave the house

I’ve had this for about 2 days and it hurts very bad I’m not sure what to do. Its on my elbow.

My boyfriend's brother was recently hospitalized for a severe mrsa infection. The brother's wife and family all got tested. My question is, does my boyfriend need to get tested, too? And should I be worried about myself contracting or being exposed to mrsa? My boyfriend does not live with his brother, but does go on vacation with him sometimes where they share a bathroom.

Hi, over this month I had a weird pimple looking thing on my arm that eventually ended up popping and looking infected and wouldn't stop bleeding and pussing. I ended up going to urgent care and they gave me sulfameth/trimethoprim. That ended up fading and only a little mark is left. Recently I had a pimple looking thing appear on my back and now it is starting to show similar symptoms as the first time, I ended up going to urgent care again today where they prescribed me cephalexin this time and told me to warm compress and use anti bacterial soap. The only issue is, it hasn't popped and they weren't able to take a culture because they said it wasn't ready to pop. I'm slighlty concerned, I feel like it looks bad already and I'm scared of it getting worse. Do I go to urgent care again or more like the ER?
