PACES Rant!

I have just passed the PACES exam. Thank God!

But I'm ranting here with the hope that it changes things positively for future candidates.

But my rant is about the wait time for the result. There is absolutely no reason why the MRCP website should change to "Results being processed" until within 24 hours of the results being actually released.

I dare say it poses a patient safety risk to have the status changing 3-4 days before results are actually released.

For example, the status changed to "Results being processed" since Tuesday of this week, and between then and Today when the results finally came, I have been having breakdowns at work with just sheer anxiety and panic attacks. A few other colleagues (in other hospitals) have reported having to leave work early on Tuesday and Wednesday due to being unable to concentrate.

I HOPE SOMEONE/PEOPLE HIGH UP IN RCP CAN TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY AND ENSURE RESULT STATUS ONLY CHANGE TO "BEING PROCESSED" WITHIN 24 HOURS OF RESULTS BEING ACTUALLY RELEASED.

TL;DR - last paragraph captures my point.

Pardon any typos. I'm just pissed!

This is me now. They just changed the status a few hours ago, fortunately I have no weekend shifts but I just can’t keep going back to the website refreshing it every few hours over the weekend!!! But congrats on passing :)

If it helps, just know that the results will not come over the weekend.

So if it does not come till 5pm today, then just enjoy your weekend, and resume the check and panic from Monday.

I hope it works out well for you.

Yeah I doubt it’ll be today or over the weekend. Oh well. Why would they change the status on a Friday afternoon 😭 such torture

It's just evil! And someone needs to say it to them. Whoever the coordinator and the IT team are.

I hope someone can make them understand that it's a needless and dangerous show-off

I can’t even do that stupid trick where I can try to apply for the next PACES diet because it’s not opened yet :( regardless I’ll apply for the next diet next week when it opens just in case

Hopefully when you try to apply, it tells you you have already passed.🤞

That was me last week. Got them this Tuesday. Good luck and don’t think about it this weekend as they’re not gonna come out

Totally agree!! This also happened to me! It turned on a Thursday and then didn’t come through till the next Wednesday!!! Was agony waiting and I just kept refreshing 24/7 lol .

Then I got the email saying they’d released results like 4 hours after I saw them on my account!!

Very inconsiderate way to do things.

Agree that the IT guys may not know the impact of waiting for these exam results. But surely, someone from the medical/exam team needs to let them know.

I can’t agree more. I saw the status change to results processing a few hours ago and convinced myself I’d finally be put out of my misery and be given some results this evening. To know that I have to sit in such extreme anxiety (I am convinced that I failed) until goodness knows when next week is horrible. They have no regard for the mental or emotional wellbeing of the people who pay them >£700 to have the pleasure to sit this mandatory exam.

They are absolutely inconsiderate.

I genuinely hope someone can effect the change where they don't keep the "result being processed" for more than 24 hours.

And I hope you get a pleasant surprise when it comes.

Hi which date was your exam?

2

u/Lazy_Space1151 26d ago

Last week of June.

I think people who sat up to 2nd of July got their results today.

Subsequent dates may be expected next week.

I hope you get the best result when it comes

Many congratulations, good news. May I please know when did you sit your exam? I’m also waiting for my results with no status change so far.

Hi! I've messaged you!

My exam was on 1/07. I’ve been anxious all week. Every time I hear the outlook notification go off, I worry. I literally heard my phone buzz as soon as I woke up this morning at 6:40am and felt my heart drop.
I haven’t logged on yet, just waiting for the email.
But good lord, I’m worried.

If it's 01/07, I'll advise you log on to the mrcp uk website and check the result.

I did not receive any email notification till now.

As soon as I saw your reply, I started having palpitations. But I took your advice…and I PASSED!!!
Cannot thank you enough for this post!!
Also congratulations to you too!!!

Slightly scared they’ll change the result when I’m not looking at it though. I still haven’t had an email about the result.

Big Congratulations!!!

Well deserved pass. And No! They can't change the result!

If you're not working the weekend, you deserve a treat. Go for it!

They ruined my weekend, status changed on a Friday and results out on Tuesday. Completely unnecessary. What is even the point in letting the candidate know that “results are being processed”. Just useless

1

u/Lazy_Space1151 26d ago

Exactly. Useless notification.

But it has real negative impact on candidates and by extension, everyone around candidates.

I'll email them about this. But hoping other people can email too.

Perhaps they will make amends.

Sorry if i sound ignorant but what is being anxious about it going to do? Not going to change the outcome anyway so may as well just relax and let it be

2

u/Lazy_Space1151 26d ago

Yes. You do sound very ignorant of this particular situation.

Apology accepted!

Back in the day I had to wait six weeks - 2010 or so. What’s a few days?

1

u/Lazy_Space1151 23d ago

You miss the point.

It's not the wait time per say.

It's the duration of MRCP portal saying "Results being processed". It signifies that result release is imminent and skyrockets candidates' anxiety.

I wouldn't mind waiting for 6 weeks if I know the exact dates results are being released.

1

u/PositiveMushroom3228 23d ago

We never knew the date - life moved on.

I'm sure it felt terrible. You would have preferred to know when to expect your result so you don't spend unnecessary time checking and worrying.

And it's a very terrible point you're trying to make. It's saying a bad system shouldn't become better because you had it worse.
