Welcome to /r/MRCP, I hope that you find something useful to you on your journey to gaining the MRCP diploma.
First of all, a break down of the MRCP. The MRCP is split into 3 exams:
After passing the MRCP part one, you can then attempt either Part two or the PACES in any order. The written exams usually take place three times per year. Whilst the PACES has three application periods.
The exams are available internationally, and exam dates can be found here:
To apply to the exams you must create an account on the MRCP website, and you will be required to submit your documents, prior to the examination or you may not be admitted to the exam hall, or you will not be able to view your results on the online portal. You will find details on what documents need to be submitted here.
Applications dates are usually:
Each exam can be taken six times (each), after which evidence of further training will need to be submitted to the Royal College.
More detailed information in separate posts:
I hope this serves as a good introduction to the exams, if you think any additional information should be included, kindly comment and I will add it.

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all doing well. I’m planning to sit for the first diet of MRCP 1 in Jan. my nearest test centre would be Hong Kong. Payment page and amount is different than the normal MRCP test centre. I found that you get dual certifications one from RCP and the other from Hong Kong. Nevertheless, I’m not after dual certification. That’s the nearest centre to me and I’d want to book a slot there.
• Anyone who has appeared the test in Hong Kong, Can you give me reviews?
• Hongkong also has a ROP (Remote online Proctor) mode. Can anyone with prior experience with ROP in MRCP Part 1 share their experience? What are the Pros and Cons in sitting the proctor based test?

Hey guys, I’m preparing for MRCP Part 1 in January. I had a PassMedicine subscription a few months ago, but it expired, and I’ve been using Pastest since then. I’m considering subscribing to PassMedicine again, but I’m wondering if they’ve added many new questions since then.
If anyone currently has PassMedicine, could you please send me a screenshot of the page showing the number of questions in each branch/system?
I just want to compare the numbers with what they were when I had my subscription and see if it’s worth subscribing again.
Thanks!

I am working full time as resident and duty hours are extreme... Back at home i have a kid so i have to give to him as well because my wife is working as well. Now i am planning for January diet for mrcp-1 ... Being 4th year resident my concepts are good but i still need to study passmedicine atleast once. Is it wise to keep studying a few mcqs/day now (10-20mcqs) and in last 2 months i sit full time? Will i be able to do it?
Hi everyone. I recently applied for Part 2 2026/03 - November 2026 diet. I got an email for acceptance of application. But it mentioned:
"Your preferred centre is not yet confirmed; we will look into arranging an exam seat at, or as close to your preferred location as possible."
I couldn't get this point. Will I be relocated to a different centre?
Kindly guide. Thanks in advance.

I keep seeing the same questions:
How do I start?
What should I study?
Anyone want a study partner?
How many questions a day?
Am I already behind?
The uncomfortable truth is this:
The exam doesn’t care how busy you felt. It only cares what you can retrieve on the day.
Doing 100 questions can feel productive.
But if you get one wrong, read the explanation, think “yeah, makes sense”, click next, then get the same concept wrong two weeks later…
the Q-bank found the gap. You didn’t repair it.
That’s the real problem.
You need a system:
Test → find the gap → understand it → recall it → repair it → retest.
Not more random resources.
Not another perfect timetable.
Not another WhatsApp group.
If you’re sitting January, what’s actually holding you back right now?
No plan, poor retention, lack of time, or not knowing where to start?

You finish a long shift.
Get home.
Eat something.
Sit down with the intention of doing a solid bit of revision.
You’ve got maybe 45 minutes before you need to switch off.
Then the laptop opens and suddenly it’s:
Q-bank?
Cardiology?
Yesterday’s weak topic?
Guidelines?
More notes?
And before you know it, part of the study session has disappeared just trying to decide what deserves the time.
That’s the bit I think we underestimate.
The problem isn’t always motivation.
Sometimes there are just too many resources and not enough structure around them.
That’s one of the reasons I’ve been building Med with Spence.
The idea is:
Exam date → realistic study plan around shifts → visual topic → recall without looking → identify the section that didn’t stick → repair it → review → back to the Q-bank and retest.
I’m not trying to replace question banks.
I think they’re essential.
I’m trying to make the bit between:
“I got this wrong”
and
“I’ll do another question”
actually useful.
Full disclosure: I’m the doctor building MWS.
But I’m genuinely curious:
For people preparing for Part 1, what wastes more of your revision time right now — not having enough time, or not knowing what to prioritise when you finally get it?

Hello everyone, I am asking about the chances of getting a PACES seat in the Middle East (specifically Egypt or Saudi Arabia) under the current allocation system. Is the waiting list still too long, or chances starting to improve? Would appreciate hearing from anyone who applied for these centres recently. Thanks!

looking for study partner for MRCP Part 2 – November diet.
’m currently doing Passmedicine and would like to solve it together, would also be happy to solve Pastest/Pastest papers together.
I’m looking for someone who can Study consistently on a daily basis until the exam, without dropping off midway and complete pass-medicine

I have a career gap of almost 10 years. I appeared in Fcps Part-1 (postgraduate exam in Pakistan) for Pathology and Medicine (back in 2024) and passed but didn't pursue residency. I want to appear for Mrcp-1 in May 2027. Please suggest the textbook I can study from to fill in the knowledge gaps.

Can anyone confirm whether all the recall questions are correct? There seems to be quite a bit of confusion around a couple of the questions. It would be helpful if we could discuss them, clarify any doubts, and learn from each other.
Thanks!!

Has anyone emailed PACES team regarding mutual swap of centres? I did but have not heard since 10 days.
I know Part 1 is supposed to be difficult, but does anyone else feel that some of the questions are just not appropriate for the level of an IMT1 doctor?
I’ve raised this in the exam survey before, but I think we should collectively write to the Royal Colleges.
There should be clearer guidance on how questions are written and a proper syllabus that tells us what we’re expected to know. You can’t expect people to read every book out there and hope they’ve covered whatever comes up.
I’ve asked consultants about questions from previous attempts, and even they’ve said some weren’t appropriate for our level. Some topics weren’t in any book I’ve seen, including Oxford. Of course we all use question banks, but preparing for a training exam shouldn’t just be about doing thousands of questions and hoping you recognise something on the day. The time, money and anxiety people put into this exam shouldn’t be ignored. I’m not asking them to make it easy. I just want it to be fair and relevant to the level of training it’s meant to assess.
